  1. My Herald 13/60 has 60-spoke wire wheels but the spare tyre is fitted to a factory original steel wheel. Does anyone know of a source of single wire wheels? The usual suppliers seem to offer only sets of four. I would be happy to buy/swap/part exchange without or without a tyre, and a spinner is not required.
  2. It may be just me but the factory steering wheel on my Herald 13/60 makes me feel as though I'm driving a bus. Is there is a recommended minimum smaller diameter? With thanks as always.

    Herald 13/60 Window Seals

    Most helpful. Thank you.
  4. Are there any photos/drawings/illustrations out there showing how to fit replacement inner (metal-edged) and outer side-window seal strips, using their different types of clips? With thanks.
  5. Does anyone know whether it is save to replace the original 3-point static front-seat belts fitted to my 1970 Herald 13/60 Convertible with today's 3-point inertial seat belts? I am not clear whether the locking action would work, given the lower and angled top strap location. With thanks.
  6. I am most grateful for all that helpful advice. Thank you all again.
  7. I have nothing to suggest that my 1970 Herald 13/60 has been modified for lead-free petrol, so is there anything (other than price) to choose between the products offered by Castrol, Winn's and many others? Any recommendations? Would an additive do any harm if the engine has been converted? Also, is it necessary to substitute a ethanol-proof filter and associated hoses? Or is that only advisable using unleaded petrol without an additive? With thanks.
  8. I've ordered a complete stainless steel exhaust system (three pieces), plus the appropriate full fitting kit and assembly paste. Should the paste be applied to both sides of the gasket (pictured) that fits between the manifold and downpipe or only to the two pipe connections, leaving the gasket 'dry'? WIth thanks.
  9. Forgive another post from a 13/60 newby. I've never driven anything but manual tramission cars, so know they can vary, but the clutch on my 1970 13/60 seems particularly fierce. That is, it grabs at engagement without any chance of making a smooth change. I wonder whether that is simply characteristic, whether I shall have to adjust my technique, or whether it signals the clutch is on its way out. With thanks as always.
  10. I've been told that the two-core radiator fitted to the Spitfire Mark 3 and 4 (1964-1980) - see for example https://tinyurl.com/2s3z82t4 can be fitted to a 1970 13/60 as a wider upgrade, subject to the removal of the steel fillets that secure the original. Does anyone have any experience of making that substitution? With thanks.
  11. Duringa a recent massive downpoor, a puddle of rainwater was left in the passenger-side footwell. No water was evident on the dashboard or passenger seat, so I assumed the culprit was not a leaky hood. Is there a known 'weak spot' on the skuttle or elsewhere that might have been the cause? With thanks.
  12. Many thanks for that advice. I had not realised that the an exempt vehicle has to be 'taxed' every year, even though there's no charge. And you correct that the MOT opt-out is offered as part of the online application process.
  13. I understand that according to DVLA rules, my 1970 Herald 13/60 is exempt both from vehicle tax and MOT tests, but its online guidance is confusing. The log book states that it is "X Class - Historical Vehicle". Does that mean it's is automatically MOT exempt as well? Only the DVLA site states that one has to apply for MOT exemption under Category R in my case (an unmodified vehicle more than 40 years old) using Form V112, which one is supposed to present at the Post OFfice when re-taxing, which obviously doesn't apply. Any guidance will be much appreciated.
  14. The interior door handle makes a satisying click when moved towards the front but the door still remains unlucked. Perhaps the internal mechanism needs attention. Fitting a lock to the passenger door handle seems a good idea, particularly in the case of a convertible. Autodock offer a suitable and reasonably priced product: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/lock-barrel-set-10790/triumph/herald/herald/6941-13-60 Any change, Standardthread, of a short tutorial on how to make the conversion? With thanks again.
  15. I've just taken delivery of a 1970 13/60 convertible and found tha while the driver-side door handle and lock work as they should, the passenger door handle opens and closes the door but it doesn't have a keyhole and looks as though it's never had one - the area filled with unpearced brightwork. And there doesn't seem to be any way of locking the passenger door from the inside. Am I missing something? With thanks in advance.
