Or in Richards case driven......sorry that was unfair,it was I that left my spitfire in a dry garage New Year's Eve and let someone else drive to the pub. ;D

Be carefull that when you tighten the mounts you dont have the engine too high.
If you have dome type nuts or a low bonnet height it will touch and bend your bonnet.....guess how I know! -
I wouldnt attempt a drivers meet without a fuel pump either Tim ;D
I'm just glad I threw my old one in the boot as I left home that morning :) -
I had 195 60 15's on mine and the speedo was bang on!

my Spitfire has some rust on the back right rear valance. It has developed into a whole and and spread up some of the arch past the bumper.
I've had a poke about and it is maybe 2-3inches long rusted and the whole is an inch in diameter. Wondering where is the best place for a replacement valance or if you guys think its worth repanneling the arch as well.
Thanks guys.
PS Ill get a picture this weekend to see damage.
I'm a little confused with your question....
Is it the rear valance thats rusty or the rear wing below the bumper?
If its the rear wing and the rest of the wing is good and original I'd be inclined to repair whats there. If the rust is on the actual valance then for the cost you may as well replace(providing you can weld and paint that is?).
Post some pictures and people can properly advise :) -

Are all the hoses getting hot?....bottom and top? any cold spots on the rad and do you have a fan fitted(although still shouldnt overheat that quickly).
Could have a huge airlock.....
Oops just re read your post about the top hose....
Question for clever people.....if the water pump had failed could this cause something similar?
How quick would poor timing cause an engine to boil? -
I wouldnt be panicking, drop the oil out and drain the water then change the head gasket for a quality item (payen).
These engine are pretty robust and the likely hood of you having done serious damage just running it up with no load are pretty slim.
However now you know dont run it at all! ;)
Good luck!

Graham I'm not sure if you saw my issues prior to the rbrr but high oil pressure caused mine to dump its oil from the oil filter seal....maybe yours is doing something similar?
Have you checked the PRV to make sure its not been uprated?
There's two spring lengths.....the longer the higher the oil pressure.

Back to the debate the car had no problem keeping up -we physically found it harder work as we did in 04 in the GT6
Come the 10CR in its present format I would always choose the Spit but slip two full nights of driving in and I would be tempted by the saloon
Dont think I'm gonna like being middle aged Andy if this is what it does to you.....I think your biggest problem is a lack of reclining seats ;)
I even slept with my roof down.....Matt was driving so it was intentional ;D -
Dave retired in 06 Alan....
-
Claire and Nigel hill retired Claires stag in 2008...I think?
Due to a timing chain issue if my memory serves me correct......they then went home and continued in another car -

Bit scary as I have never brought a car without trying it first but any car that can survive a RBRR cant be too bad :))

I wonder if its the fact your engine is tighter than mine ;D
My car has 165 70's and 3000rpm is about 70......

Dave you need to be aware that air sanders use an awful lot of air!
If you don't have a very big compressor you will always be playing catch up.
I have a small 50 litre compressor and it won't run my air sander for more than a couple of mins before stopping I then have to wait.it means the compressor runs constantly!
Your areas needing the most attention do appear to be localised......do it as Clive says,by hand.
At least that way you'll retain the original base protection.
