  2. Great to have the old girl back on the road.  Not put many miles on her yet, but may get chance for a few this weekend. 

    It is a different car to drive, the following work has been carried out:

    1. Rebuilt T5 Cosworth gearbox.

    2. 3 piece Helix organic clutch.

    3. Spigot bush.

    4. Uprated propshaft.

    5. Rebuilt diff.

    6. Chassis repairs/modification of breast plate to allow a 3" exhaust to pass.

    7. X2 Brake M/C's.

    8. New EBC brake pads.

    9. Fresh brake fluid.

    10. Rebuilt & uprated T3 turbo charger.

    11. Flywheel re-faced.

    12. Refurbished trailing arms with Red competition bushes.

    13. Rear Koni shock absorbers

    14. TUV heavy-duty trailing arm brackets.

    15. Front Koni shock absorbers.

    16. CDD uprated ant-roll bar drop links.

    17. New drivers seat.

    18. New 3 point harness.

    19. Fresh coolant with Millers extra cool additive.

    20. Oil and filter change.

    21. Cambelt adjusted.

  3. Bit of an update. Turbo charger removed, and upgraded from a 2WD to 4WD spec.  Then more modern internals & upgrades inside. 270 degree bearing removed & fitted with a 360 degree bearing, which increases the reliability of the unit, & allows a safer way of running higher boost pressure. Thankfully the car came with a spare set of bigger injectors, as the current ones run out of fuel at 350bhp, which will be required for the new turbo charger.

    Hi Alan,

    That should buy you an ex Californian car, with excellent body & chassis.  You may also be lucky to have one with o/d for that, too.

    Thank you for your advice.  I will certainly look at the TR register.  The price range of those TR6s for sale is quite large.  My budget is not vast but I don't want to end up buying a car that needs loads of work.  I'm happy working with the engines, brakes, suspension, etc, but not bodywork.

    Based on your feedback above, I would be looking for an ex USA (dry state) car, which should be a great start with regards to body & chassis.

If you have vibration at the steering wheel, & you have isolated the actual wheels (rims), with tyres removed, to check for flat spots, and tyres are similarly OK, you could have wear ('lift') at the track rod.  Jack the car up and pull (lift) each front wheel and check for movement in the rack.

    How old are your tyres ? They should be dated on the sidewalls. 

  7. Hardtop now installed. This was purchased 20.05.1977, from the local Triumph main dealer for £153.00. Installation & paint was another further £47.00, so total-£200.00.

  8. Hi Martin,

    The car puts the power down very well actually, certainly in the dry. However, in any other condition it is quite 'loose'. It is essentially a handful when pressing on, so you do need to be razor focused when in the armchair.

  9. I popped out at lunch time today to get my spare, unworn bonnet hinges sandblasted.  They were done while I waited, which was very good of them. They now need etch priming, priming and finally, color coat.

    Front brake disc skim on car on Wednesday, then new Mintex 1144 pads, oil change and gearbox oil level check. Then the hardtop will be fitted, including high-level brake light to be reinstated.  Will also have all 4 wheels checked for balancing. Then wants detailing, and stickers applying.

     

    Roll on 01.10.21 !!

  10. Had a productive day on Saturday.

    320bhp tuning enhancement kit now installed on the TR6.  It has gone from producing 15psi peak, and holding 11psi,  to around 25psi, and holding 20. Lively to double lively best describes it. Still running a TR6 diff, with 4:1CWP and Quaife ATB, but not sure for how long ?

     

    Kit comprised of:

    ·         Bosch Dark Green injectors (Ford RS Cosworth). Capable of flowing enough fuel for 350BHP.

    ·         3-Bar MAP sensor.

    ·         -31 wastegate actuator.

    ·         Denso Iridium IK27 spark plugs. Suitable for power levels from 250-450BHP.

    ·         Custom calibrated chip.

  11. Exciting times ahead. Stage 2, 320bhp tuning enhancement kit has now arrived.  The 3" exhaust system from turbo to tail-pipe tip will have to wait.

  12. If you buy a Newman cam, they are based on a new chill cast blank.  Also consider their steel EN40 followers. You will not have any issues with this cam, providing it is installed correctly, and good quality oils are used and changed regularly.
