  1. Just got mine back From Gower and Lee (solex B10 from a Renown)
It looks absolutelly new. rebore and re-sleeved, new jets ... Bolted on and forget.
They were in business before the war, found an ad in a Autocar magazine dated 1946!

dont have the bill handy but it was not exactly cheap, although a big chunck of that was eaten up by insured courrier. They list standard prices on their website as a guidance

I do have pictures, which I will re-size and post if you are interested.[/quote]

Am I understanding you correct that it would seem that the radiator surround has been pushed back as well? How far should it be in? Would this be the same as on the Mk3?
If you would have pictuers that would be great.

The absense of lettering on my bonnet and the surround that seemed to been painted with underseal first already gave us a clue that it probably had had a knock sometime, but that you can hide unflattened welding beads and wrinkles below a coat of shiny paint. Still the lead seems to indicate that it was professionally done and not a home job.

  3. Shaun being rather busy knocking down walls I thought I might post some.
It seems that i am not the only one who has put some dents in the old girl, when we stripped the nose Shaun found heaps of lead and this.

    Now What next?
Shall we just flatten down and again lead or filler? Or are there repair pannels available?
I Also have the Mk3 bonnet, but do not really want to cut that part out, it would be only mean that Shaun has to repair that one later on...
With all the lead she looked lik this, not too bad, so perhaps we can get away with a bit of panel beating and filler?

  4. Driving back from the NEC on a rainy evening with a dodgy alternator and afraid that the battery might not last on the motorway. I stopped at a "quick fit" to buy a spare battery. The salesman refused to sell me any because he did not have any for the Roadster. I had to call in the manager to make him understand that any battery with the poles on the correct position and delivering 12 volts is the right battery. Apparently not so by EU rules and the warranty of the car might be void if they fitted the wrong one...... On a 62 yr old car, defund maker warranty????
Eventually he sold me one but only if i was going to fit it myself!

Oh what has become of the trade?

  6. Quoted from Nick Moore

Question - there are rubber seals between the heater box and bulkhead. My car's original seals had been eaten by something (rubber mice?). Are they foam rubber? How thick should they be?

Here's a picture of mine, as they came off the car,
The ones over the in-outlet pipe were about a 1/2 inch thick, the one sealing the airducting a bit less. it looked a bit like that foamy sponge deal you can buy to exclude drafts around windows and doors in yr house. Needless to say, mine did not come off, part stayed on the bulkhead....

  7. Wim,
I would also say that they are too low, the higher you can get them the better, specially with our "kinderkopkes" (Child heads = cobblestones)
the main pipe you can almost make it fit in between the chassis rails but for sure the silencers could be put higher.
I have been searching if I have a good picture of the set up on mine but not succesfull.
So far best I came up so far is this

  8. Is Oily a color?

I believe they were black, unless they were factory overhauled then the color was green. Not sure if this was still the case during the BL reign.
The rocer cover on mine  (mk3) was some dark yellow pale orange and on the mk2 it is red

  9. Oh,
    forgot,
The remaining doorskin and front valance are on their way, Mk3 items but that should be no problem for a champ.
They did not say anything but to the contrary so think the bracket will be in the same parcel.

    Cheers

what is the big hole for about 25mmdiameter, In the back verticle edge of the boot floor? (i did not strip the car) can you remember Dirk?  :) look down just from the spare wheel mount.
is it for drainage or a cable etc???

    cheers
    shaun

Nothing Messip.... just the drainage hole I would assume.
There used to be a grommet to keep the rainwater in and make sure your luggage is soaked when you park her outside the hotel.

Have a look at the Mk3 next time youre over, i think there is the same hole....

    Counting days now...
