  1. Quoted from glang-

Paddock do oversize circlips but I dont know how to use them. What happens if they dont fit, can you fit one to one side only?

Also Matthew do you think its the circlip spinning or the cup?

Only fit them on the ones that are spinning.  I got some from Paddocks before when I got new UJ's..but they didn't seem any thicker... :(  having measured them.....

Hmmm, circlip or cup...I just presumed it was the circlip?

  2. I used a smear of moly based grease in the end. Pig of a job getting that gearbox in as I have extra weight with an overdrive.
Still...all in now. Just need to get everything reconnected and will test briefly before I attach the prop.
    Thanks for the helpfull info.

But when you press the pedal it releases the force on the friction plate so if anything it should move away from the flywheel. It was in the right way round wasnt it?

I hope so...it all worked ok..other than the noise when pushing further down.?
I'll have to have a look again now   .... Gearbox is still out so a quick job to check!

Its strange that the rub marks on the springs in the pic are on the flywheel side of the friction plate as if theyve been rubbing on the flywheel and I wouldnt expect that to happen with the pedal depressed if fact just the opposite.....

Maybe the extra travel causes it to push and catch on the 4 bolts that hold the flywheel in??

What happens if it's put in the wrong way round out of interest?

  5. Well having removed my clutch I think I've found the rumbling cause...  As I said that when I push right down I get a noise of something catching...seems it's the friction plate springs..judging by the marks as can be seen.
I guess that extra travel causes it to stick and rub?Last thing I changed was my slave cylinder..before the gearbox went back in....maybe too much travel now....

I can only echo the other comments in favour of scrolls. They need a little care in setting up but nothing you can't tackle with ordinary tools and a little patience, and they don't wear out. Yes they can pass a wee bit of oil but in practice it's not enough to cause any problems and certainly a lot less than leaks from the other "usual suspect" places. IMO a scroll is probably the best bet.

So, if I have a scroll...is it likely ok?  Just reading the replies I'm guessing it's the best one to have over a lipped oil seal. There are no further seals to a scroill..just the scroll and the hosuing and the gasket?

I guess best thing is to remove the clutch and flywheel and inspect. I'll take some pics too.
