  1. Thanks Hughbert. I' e had to slow down consiberably this past month not only because of winter, but because life has thrown me another curveball. The baby we were expecting in Febuary came 16 weeks early. She's doing fine, but my time and resources have dropped off once again.

Just read this thread from start to finish. Hats off to you Bruce, for a phenomenal turn-around. I see you're under 40 with a GT6; I'm 38 and looking to buy my first one. Unfortunately I can't weld, can't rebuild engines and have limited time and facilities. Better keep my eyes open for one which is fully together, then!
Inspirational reading. Keep us posted on how it settles back into daily use.  :)

I didn't know a thing about welding or bodywork and very little about mechanics when I bought my GT6. I'm right at 40, and picked up a decent welder about 3 years ago and am getting comfortable with it, and enjoying other non-gt6 projects now. If you don't mind learning new trades, no reason not to buy one in need of resto. (see my rebuild thread at http://www.triumphexp.com/journal/byakk0 if you wanna)

This may sound crazy, but please stick with me.

I am considering buying an old chassis to bolt the body to and then building a wooden frame similar to another GT6 restoration of this forum and putting the body with a stripped down chassis above my original rolling chassis.  This would enable me to work on both parts of the project at once.  That way if I hit a low point or mental brick wall on either I have the option of walking away from the problem and for a time focusing on other "problems".

That would be me. I got the idea From Andre's GT6 restoration. Just get good quality casters and screws to hold the casters in place. I used 4 1 5/8" gold grabber screws and one wheel came loose while I was pushing it into the garage with the tub on it the first time. It is now only moveable with my floor jack underneath whilst I devise a method to retrofit the caster without removing the tub and inverting the frame.

Hi. Several late nights per week starting at 8.30pm ish after putting our son to bed and working throught to midnight. Plus half a day per weekend when possible. Balancing working on the car, with my real job and raising a young family is a challenge!

    Regards

    Bruce

I'm in the same boat. I just won't let my wife know you did yours in a year while I am passing the the 17 year mark. ;)

  5. you do do some fine work, my friend. I replaced a little bit more than that on my GT6. Wish I had as much time to devote to it. Gotta strip my chassis down for media blasting. Maybe today...

  6. How much of that inner wing do you need? How handy are you with metal shaping. You may have to get some 18 or 20 ga sheet metal and make a part. If you just need a few inches, it shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate.

I presume you are referring to the part listed as 16?

You weldy people make me feel so inadequate.

Welding is not an issue for me (now). I bought a used Lincoln 135 and just started playing with it. The folks that make me feel in adequate are the ones who can restore a car in worse shape than mine was in about a year.

  8. Amazing work. And you've done it quickly too. What you've done in 1 year has taken me 15+, and I am still not yet to the point of painting my GT6!
    See my journal at http://www.triumphexperience.com/journal/byakk0.
I'm in the process of refurbishing the bonnet right now.
