  1. 2000- Bog standard 2000mk2 Auto- not wanting to loose momentum (as it takes a while to build up in a 2000 auto!) demonstrating  Triumph 2000 drive shaft spline lock  "rear end twitch" to "modern car co-driver" whilst taking roundabouts at said  "twitch speed" ..the response from "virgin co-driver"  being "Bloody hell how the swear did you do that"
Response from other co-drive ..."oh he always does that"

  2. Tim I could leave the 2000 in the shed and bring the Scimitar SE6a if you want to see less saloons! ...its got a few Triumph bits on it!

On a serious note its a real task loading all the info up -this is the first year I have helped Tim and Jason and didn't really appreciate the work involved !

On a less serious note some of the modifications/history jotted down on the Entry forms makes great reading I would like to put some of that info on the blog with a few pictures and stories about the old war horses ...just a few light hearted sentences will be fine so if you want to see you car/prep/progress featured over the next 11 months on the blog ping me your stories and pictures to ctrbrr@gmail.com

Again if you want to view all the pages and extended features of the blog click on the link in this post not the one in the top right of the page - cheers  Mr Sheed

I can assure you that you can still moan as Knebworth can be reached from Didcot, via A34 / M40 / M25 / A1M  if you chose to stick to a "traditional route" - all you miss is the last free flowing section to the Plough if you go that way 😀

Mike your epic drive from Didcot to the plough in 2014 will go down in RBRR folk law .....

  4. The trouble with the cheque thing is Data protection and the cost of secure interface ..wouldn't want the entry fee going up due to IT costs and not everyone uses pay pal ...anyway half the fun and tradition is getting a cheque in the post ...it adds "mystique" and it is  a final show of defiance to the "modern world" from a load of grumpy old gits festering in their sheds dreaming of the good old days... ...well in my head anyway !

Delivered mine last night, on my way back from London, after working on the Festival of Remembrance - sorry about the green ball point pen ink - it was all I could find at the time (apart from Black Sharpie - that wasn't sharp anymore!)

You going to do it in the TR5!?!!

  6. I also have a contact for stag brake bits a bit closer to home PM me if interested!

On a slight thread drift sorry in advance  ..The basildon banger seems to have a Russian (brake)master cylinder on it! could be TUV group ..it works but wanted to get it some new seals "incase" or a new standard master flicking through flea bay noticed a Land Rover master that looks a bit like the "Russian" one the seller claims will fit a 2000 MK2 ..Anybody used one of these land rover ones ?

  7. I put stag front brakes on the MK1 "Cairo Taxi" used MK2 hubs that I had kicking around, kept the MK1 rear drums for the decent manual adjusters, Mk2 servo and master ...bashed the inner wing in a bit to get it to fit  braided front  flex pipes worked a treat never had a balance issue,or diving front end etc- suspension worth considering when making braking upgrades as it all works together  .. Taxi was  MK2 ARB,front dampers were spax with a CW progressive spring, rears were Koni classics with a 475 spring, (standard height) 14" wheels 175/65 Continentals superflex all round...all seemed to work really well for fun everyday day use ..oh and MK2 trailing arms with MK2 "Datsun" drive shafts ..and a CW "quick rack"

  8. 2006-Red Mk1 2000
3 up all going well apart from a bit slow
Stopped at Exeter services  to help a stag with a snapped rear  damper - diverted home to pick a spare (about 10 miles away) hit a deer on the way to getting the damper,(-we also now needed two headlights!)I was in the passenger seat  so took over driving post deer kill only to see the oil light on- I asked the co-driver how long it had been on.. he said it had been flicking on and off for the last hundred miles or so on the way to exeter- he thought it was the indicators coming on randomly! . check oil; no oil! .so turned round drove past the dead deer bought 5l of oil at exeter explained to stag crew they would have to wait a bit longer for their damper..filled with oil drove home changed headlights picked up spare damper returned to Exeter service dropped off damper - NAILED  it to LE just managed to get breakfast, found problem with oil in day light - the breather had blocked so it blew oil out from dipstick etc ,cleaned out breather at dartmeet - didn't use a drop for the rest of the run - insurance paid me £400 to repair the car myself post deer incident ...forgotten all about that one!

  9. Tend to agree with Tim
Couple of key points-if your worried or suspect a part replace it before the start and get some test miles on it to prove..at least 500 to 600 miles..then you don't have to carry a spare!

Plan ahead..none of us have much time..so start prep now for the 2016 event  ..aim to have the car in event "trim" 2 months before the start and use it..a lot!

(ref cost -Put a fiver a week away in a "shed fund" to help cover spares/prep/fuel ..soon builds up over the year)

Links here to prep notes etc here...              http://ctrbrr.blogspot.co.uk/p/preperation-some-notes-and-ideas.html

  10. Guys ..I know the mad prep feelings all too well,in fact do I dare admit to missing that mild panic mixed with adrenaline buzz I seem to have  the second week of September every other year  (but not this year taking a break from Euro trips this year)

Just remember back in the day when we only had one car and it was invariably old-people used to jump in their "old" car and drive a couple of thousand miles and just give the oil a quick check..
These are tough old basic cars the trick is to drive to what you have underneath you and you will get round hook or by crook

Its too late in the day to worry too much now so just go have fun!

I took 11th hour to a new level back in 2011 - read this and take heart   http://shedtune.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/10cr-shed-and-all-that-part-one.html

we made it round by the way!

Wishing you all luck and be safe

  11. Good luck to everyone taking part...my top tips

    - Don't leave the fire extinguisher in the boot have it to hand! 🙂

-Convince your co-driver that "screenies" are in fact wet wipes and OK to wipe your bum with ....provides hours of entertainment

-Keep the oncoming traffic on your left (when not in UK) and the sky in the top half of the windscreen (UK and Europe)

    Have fun guys !
