  1. That,s interesting as my father had a Hillman Husky, with the nice back door. I wonder if that had the same setup....I!d like to get a Husky, good fun car....
  2. Why did they do it? Was it cost cutting (if rubber tube is cheaper)......
  3. Oh, we'll that seems odd. So I won't be buying some fuel line piping then.....
  4. Well in the end I used the Eezy Bleed system recommended by Ted Taylor, nice and easy using air from my spare tyre. BUT blimey I wonder who owned it prior to me? The piping from the master cylinder to the slave wasn't what I expected. Instead of the usual fuel line type metal piping, this car has............red plastic tubing, similar to what might adorn a water pump in an aquarium....no wonder my clutch hydraulics went, I'm surprised it wasn't sooner! So, the clutch works now but is bound to bugger up again soon....so I shall have to order some fuel line piping and re-do.
  5. Hi - can anyone recommend a good clutch/brake one man bleeding kit? Need to sort my clutch hydraulics and no-one to help so will have to go solo....call me Billy-No-Mates..!!!

    My Carb Issue

So, I was rushing about but today took off the air filters and gave her a turn. Fired for a moment and then died. Tried again and the engine turned, but wouldn't fire at all....so this must be a fuel supply issue - haven't stripped the carbs, but it can't be them - or can it...? I recently re-did the fuel line from the pump to the carbs and the petrol was flowing (all over the floor!). I haven't buggered around with the carbs because I'd probably make any problem worse....I did look into the pot of the front one and it looked ok - some, but not much crap.... Earlier I had got good spark from the plugs against the block..... I may have to get some help.....as in paid for help :-(

    My Carb Issue

I am going 'back to basics' as a certain political party once said.... The guy I got the car from managed to get it through the MOT and I can see he replaced the dizzy and the oil filter and a few things. BUT, did he replace the air filter? Could that be my problem? Probably not......but I think I'll remove filters and see how it runs..... Am going to get new condenser also, already have new leads and plugs..... The front SU bowl did have gunk in the bottom, but not that much. (I only checked the front carb because the front 3 exhaust exit pipes were not hot, suggesting that the problem was with that carb....) Perhaps that's it....air supply....the spindle turns ok, so maybe it's the air filter for that carb.....now that would make me happy!!

    My Carb Issue

Hi - I've been getting some great advice on my earlier thread 'What the heck....." but I think it got too long. My estate ran fine until a few months after getting it (a barn find, last taxed in '89) it lost power and when asked to move, would conk out. I thought it was a cylinder, but was told that only one wouldn't have that effect. The dry and wet pressure check didn't show a particular cylinder as being a reason. I then checked the leads and dizzy and that seemed ok. So I looked at the fuel line. Everything to the pump and beyond seemed ok (good flow). Removed the float on the front carb and cleaned it and the needle. The front three exhaust manifold pipes had been cool with the back ones very hot, but after cleaning the float and needle, next time they were hot. But the car still didn't like starting and certainly wouldn't move much - but did a bit, which it wouldn't before. So, given the fact that the car was a barn find until recently, I'm thinking that I need to go further into the carb - problem is I don't know how! Having cleaned up the needle and in and out pipes, what else is there to look at? The bowl looked ok-ish, a bit of crud on the bottom but not that much... Any ideas?

  11. I am thinking of fitting rear belts to the 2000 Estate, which will make the missus happier re the kids. I have seen some Britax belts on sale, but how hard are they to fit?

    Fuel line leak

This weekend will be my 'find the leak' one... What Greeks said has got me thinking as when lifting the mats on both sides in the front I found water. So out came the underlay and in went newspaper for now. So maybe it's the drain holes or wiper boxes - will investigate both! I have to say that she is running very sweet at the moment, new battery and repair to the fuel line connection along with the spark plug/HT lead issue fixed means it's all good! My next Q might be about electronic ignition....... Yes or No??

    Fuel line leak

OK, well....what I did was use some grips to get the nut off. Having noticed that the new fuel line that I'd bought wasn't the right length, had alreday decided to just replace nut and olive. All good until the new olive fell off the end and rolled away somewhere (because of the steep hill I live on). So with large ice cream tub filling with petrol and me scrabbling around on the floor, actually re-used the original olive which has done the job. No leak now and the petrol sodden rag I had was used to clean up the head and elsewhere....so all good. Tomorrow I'm off to see a garage to rent for overwintering the car - end  September until April. At 40, she's too old for a winter outdoors.... Also sealed bottom corner, drivers side, of windscreen again as saw that a dribble was coming through from rain overnight. Am now getting to interior small jobs - will need new carpet set, sand down and re-varnish interior woodwork and then think about rear seatbelts and - sometime, seats perhaps just covers. So - looking good, running well! Apart from heater not working, o/d not working, fuel gauge ditto......
