  1. Good advice . thanks  dennis (I'll let you know how i get on).
  2. Thanks fellas for the exellent replies,i must admit i never thought about the balance of the pistons,im now going to measure the volume of the combustion chambers before deciding.i forgot to say that the best cylinder head(the right one) sits on top of the highest protruding pistons.what if i take an equal amount from all the pistons say 10 thou. With a standard gasket on the right  and extra thick on the left. thanks again dennis.
  3. Hi everyone.ive owned my stag since 1984 with a rover v8 conversion without any problems, about 1987 i p urchased  an original second hand engine with  the intension of rebuilding it and relpacing the rover v8.well 27 years later ive decided to have a go. After assembling the bottom end i noticed  that the pistons protrude above the block surface.one side  0.014". The other 0.008" . the question is do i need to machine the exess of the pistons (low comprssion) the right cylinder head is 4.430" the left 4.410".any help would be appreciated cheers dennis.
