Hi All, 

I’m looking to book my accommodation for the 10 CR and it would be good to get an idea of where people are staying. So I thought I’d start this thread so entrants (if they are comfortable with it) can share where they have booked their overnight accommodation for the 10CR and people can book same or nearby places so we have the option to socialise in the evening.

When I replaced mine I used sealant to ensure water doesn’t seep in, collect underneath and pour into your lap when you go round a corner.

Hi all,

My friend is looking to spend some money on his Vitesse to get her up and running. The main thing is the chassis is rotten but he’s sure there will be other things!! He would love to do a full renovation but unfortunately his budget won’t stretch that far so it will need to be done in stages. The main thing at first  would be just to get her useable.

He lives near Tunbridge in Kent. 

Any recommendations on anyone local to him?

Looking very nice Beans. Fabulous attention to detail, you can see all the hard work you’re putting in to this car. 

I did my first two RBRRs with the hardtop on my Spitfire. It’s slightly quieter and drier. The third time I decided to keep the soft top on as a challenge.  I’ve never looked back as I’ve done the last 6 with the soft top.

Weather permitting, nothing beats driving through parts of the event like Scotland with the roof down. You can always wrap up if cold.

I’ve made adjustments to the soft top over the years to help make it more water tight and less drafts.

I just ensure we take warm clothes, hats and waterproofs and have never felt cold in the car. 
As the weather is looking OK I would do it in the soft top. The next RBRR (and you will want to do another one) you could do it in the hardtop and then compare. 🙂 

I’ve used magnetic sheets as you can move/change them and use them as a souvenir at the end. 🙂 

I would not worry, still looks good.

I also put both stickers on the door on my Spitfire as I feel the rear sticker looks messy/cramped on the Spit rear wing.

I also stick mine to magnetic sheets from eBay as it’s easy to reposition and I find it doesn’t mark the paint.  😀 

Also good souvenirs that you can take off and keep at the end off the event. 🙂 

Some good tips there Tim.

I’m addicted to the event after doing my first one in 2006 and then everyone since.

Drive the car as much as possible prior to the event to iron out or find any gremlins. Better to fix any issues prior to the event in the comfort of your garage/shed/driveway rather than at 3am in the rain on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. 

On the event, I’ve always found it’s good to change drivers every 2 to 3 hours even if you are not tired. Doing the event in a Spitfire with a small petrol tank we normally changed drivers when we refuelled. But we always had the rule that if you feel tired then you swap even if you’ve only been driving for only a few minutes. And if both drivers feel tired then you pull over and get some Kip. It’s amazing how refreshed you feel even after a 30min nap. Something we did on route to Lands End as the Sunday morning is extremely tiring. 

Being comfy in the car is so important. We used noise cancelling headphones or ear plugs too in the past. A nice pillow and blanket/sleeping bag is a must. Plenty of water to keep hydrated and also good if you get a leak in the coolant system. 😉

Take some really warm and waterproof clothes in case of breakdown in the middle of the night. 

If your Triumph is a convertible then waterproofs also become handy in the rain as our cars leak. 😆

Finally take time to take the event in and enjoy.


 

Had a successful weekend doing a few bits and pieces on the car.

Tuned and balanced my carbs, rear carb was running too rich. She is really smooth now and idles lovely.

Sorted bonnet rattle and bonnet catches which kept popping up. 

Also last week I got the exhaust refitted to the down pipe as it was leaking at the joint. I can now drive the car without stinking of petrol/exhaust fumes. 😆

Only a couple of jobs left now:

Fit electric fan

Fix a couple of poor electrical connections to side light and reversing light.

I don’t think there is enough straight hose length at the top to fit it there so will probably fit it on the bottom hose coming from the radiator. 
I believe that is a 28mm hose. Does anyone know if that’s correct? So I don’t have to take the hose off to measure it before ordering the part.

Lovely looking car John Abra. You should all be fine. 
Just drive it as much as you can between now and the start to ensure you find any remaining gremlins. Easier to fix now than at 3am on the side of a remote Scottish road in the rain. 😬😉

I don’t have any overheating issues. I’ve already got an aluminium full width radiator fitted. 
Just fitting it for faster warm up and seems a waste having a fan spinning when it’s not needed 90% of the time. 🙂
