One thing that surprised me when I first did the event is the pace of it.
The control stops have a great atmosphere and it is good to chat and soak it all up.
However, if you spend too long at the stops, which I did on my first event, you will find yourself towards the back of the field quite quickly. That isn’t a problem, as this isn’t a race, but it’s not ideal if you have a problem with your car and you need time to fix it before the next control stop closes.
Although I wouldn’t stress if you do have a problem and you are late, as a lot of control stops stay open a little bit longer than stated. If they do close one can always take a photo of the car at the stop as we did one year. Important thing is to let the organisers know if you are going to miss a control stop opening time due to an incident.- 1

Tim, I know what you mean I don’t think it looks right the way it just sticks in.
I like Amy’s suggestion, so may go down that route and use that instead of the thermostat switch provided with the kit. I also plan to wire a manual switch in the dash as a back up.
Amy’s link points to a 95 degree switch, should I go for a 90 degree switch on a Spit as Clive suggests?

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. This is a great site. I’ve now ordered the fan and thermostat. I’m going to fit the fan in front of the radiator, as glang mentions, the air has to flow through so whether the fan is in front or behind the radiator there is little difference in blocking air flow. This will give me more space. Also I have a wide radiator fitted so there will still be plenty of area not covered by the fan that will cool at speed when the fan is not working.

Hi Paul, I’ve got the revotec controller on the stag as it seemed like a neater install, it sits inline with the hose. I looked for a picture of it and found they do a kit for the spitfire.

I do prefer the look of that Floyd but I’ve gone for a cheaper eBay option.
Maybe an option later on. -
Thanks Jim, that engine bay is looking very tidy.
That’s a similar position to the one I’ve seen.I take it that you don’t get any problems with water and road dirt etc.
Thanks

Hi,
I’m thinking of fitting an electric fan to my Spitfire 1500.
The one I was thinking of buying has a thermostat dial that controls the temperature that the fan comes on at. See pic.Has anyone here fitted one of these, or something similar, if so I was wondering where did you locate it?
I’ve seen one guy fit it inside the engine bay near the radiator shroud. Thanks,
Paul

Wasn’t your Spitfire fast enough! 🤣
Good choice of second car, so which one will be on the RBRR?

Started to prep the car for the RBRR last weekend and this weekend.
Not too many jobs. Took her to Le Mans Classic as a shakedown where she drove without any issues.
Did manage to break the internal door opening mechanism. So had to wind the driver’s door window down to open the door from the outside. 🤣
Fixed that last weekend, the internal linkage had popped out of its plastic connector.
The fuel gauge started to play up by either giving no reading or an incorrect one.
Fixed that yesterday by changing the voltage stabiliser.
So jobs left to do.
Change broken overdrive switch.
Fit bonnet locks as no matter how often I adjust the bonnet catches they always pop up. 😬
Sort out exhaust. The connection between the manifold down pipe and the rest of exhaust seems to be leaking, so one gets exhaust fumes in the cabin which isn’t pleasant.
The connection is exposed underneath so can get easily knocked on sleeping policemen.
Planning on taking it to a custom exhaust place to see what they can do. -

Ther are 2 places in Maldon that have Hunter setups, I have my cars done at one, Mr Bishop has used the other one a number of times.
What are the names of those two places Colin?

That looks like a 1500 to me as the Mark 4 did not have headrests, they weren’t available until 1977, although one could always fit 1500 seats to a Mark IV.
Although that car is not UK, Fog lights were an option on the 1500 and became compulsory on all new cars in UK after 1st April 1980.
Again suggesting that the car is a 1500.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
I will reach out to those suggested.
Thanks

Hi All
Looking to get my Spitfire 1500 overdrive gearbox reconditioned as it whines in gears 1 to 3.
Any recommendations on a garage that would take it out and recondition it for me.
I don’t want to swap the box for a reconditioned one, but have my own box reconditioned as I have had the car for over 35 years and know it’s history.
I’m based in Essex but will travel for the right person.
Also what sort of cost should I be budgeting for? Thanks

Another great RBRR.
Made some new friends and caught up with some old ones.
Apart from the drivers door catch breaking on the way to the start, which was an easy fix, we suffered no problems on the actual event. Didn’t even need to add oil which is probably a first!
My son, his first time, loved the event.
I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the organising team and all the marshals who volunteered to make this event possible. I really appreciate all the hours they put in to make this event happen and some of the unsociable hours Marshals have to put up with.
THANK YOU ALL. 🙌🙌🙌

I’ve just filled up on the A127 with premium e5 unleaded at a station near Basildon on Southend bound carriageway. All petrol grades were available.

Hi All
I don’t know if people will think this is a good idea or not, but on previous RBRRs we had a RBRR message diary where everyone on the RBRR could post messages so participants could let others know of any problems, provide updates on progress and friends could follow the event.
So I thought I’d create this thread for that purpose.
This isn’t meant to replace any official event communication channels or the organisers WhatsApp broadcast group but more for our own informal communication.

Steve, I’m probably wrong but I thought the colour coding was for the price, red high/green low and not related to availability.
Floyd is right. The colour denotes price, high red, low green.
If fuel is unavailable then there should be no price, but this is dependent on Waze users updating this, etc. -
Great to see the control stops in the latest Club Torque
in Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR)

Shame but I suppose it’s a bit cold to have a Marshall standing there in the middle of the night for an hour or so.
Mc Jim did it one year and received a few bottles of Lambrini from entrants for his efforts.
