  1. I have recently fitted Megsquirt to my Herald, so ignition only but about to start on the fuel side.
I made up  a bracket to hold the sensor and bolted this to the timing chain cover, it does give you some flexibility. I mounted mine about 50 BTDC, you can correct for the position of the sensor in the software. I think the manual recommends mounting it some way BTDC as there pulse train will before reliable before the fitting stroke.
I would not take the timing pointer off as you will need to check and calibrate the timing (with a strobe) and you need the timing parks to do this.
Am surprised that the trigger wheel will interfere with the pointer, on mine (its a 4 cylinder engine) the trigger wheel is slightly smaller diameter than the pulley, Will see if I have a picture that I can upload.

    good luck

    regards

Flog the gt6 kit to somebody and buy the herald/spit version? Sounds like less hassle to me.

    You might be right.
I brought the uprights very cheaply from someone on a boat forum who also had a GT6 but hadn't fitted them.
I have been tidying my garage, getting rid of all the old TR6 stuff, and 're-found' them on a shelve so was mussing about putting them on the Herald along with the bigger disks etc
I was going to fit them to my GT6 but don't have it anymore, in fact I sold it about 4 years ago.

    cheers

  3. I have brought a couple of Canelys trunnionless uprights from a GT6 (but never used).
So what do I need to fit them to my Herald 13/60?
I guess new hubs, stub axle, hubs, calliper and disks. Anything else, am I missing something?

    cheers

  4. I know someone who had a new (6 months) E class Merc.
Had a full service including oil and filter change. Starts to drive up M4 towards London, outside lane, filters splits, engine looses all the oil and seizes.
Stuck in fast lane and the police had to shut the M4 while his car was recovered!
MB accepted filter was faulty and had to replace engine...

  5. A bit OT but.
We have just come back from a trip down thru the alps to Italy (Modena) and back (sort of "not a 10CR trip"..).
Anyway what struck me was how much traffic there was and how many delays, traffic and roadworks,  on the Germany, Italian and Austrian motorways. I don't remember it being this bad before. Also once you were off the motorways in Germany (and lesser existent, Italy and Austria) the traffic calming and speed cameras seems more common than I remember from previous trips.
All of which slows down your progress and how many miles you can easily do each day....

  6. you need to look at the signal coming from the sensor (or amplifier) output to see if there is anything there. If you don't have an oscilloscope try using you PC (assuming you have one). There are some nice software solutions that us the PC sound card as an A/D and then displays the signal. Feed the signal into the mic or line input and then run the program. Its bandwidth will be limited but you should see something. If you cant see any signal from the sensor when its knocking then the MS will never detect it.
Actually if its a Piezo device you wont see any thing without the amplifier as its needs a very high input impedance amplifier....

I will leave the issue of if it worth doing/possible to Nick and Rob....

  7. Easy to do online (covers all towns in France introducing pollution control). here http://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr
You will need to scan your reg documents and then reduce it to less than 400k (thus making it unreadable...) and attach it to your application.
The sticker was taking  about 3 weeks to arrive but they usually send an email with a temporary sticker that you can use.
Did this for our camper van earlier this year as we were planning to drive thru  France.

  8. I didn't really know Martin but we have done a few 10CR's (not always successfully...) and they have always been great fun and something special for me and Libby.
It has also given us the confidence to go off with other Triumph friends for long trips in Europe, usually involving steep hills/mountains......

SO thank you very much Martin for the inspiration...

And very best thoughts for your family

    Mike and Libby.

  9. Surprised that it has not been mentioned on the forum but the RBRR raised

over £95,000 for the Guide dogs for the blind. Wonderful.

    From Facebook:
    Jason Chinn..
Feeling amazed, surprised and very proud of my club. Over £95,000 raised for Guide Dogs for the blind by our Round Britain Reliability Run. Big cheque presented last night to the charity at our annual dinner. Go Club Triumph!

    cheers

  10. You can use a PC program called TYRE to generate a series of waypoints for an older TomTom (new ones dont do waypoints) or a Garmin.
All you need is  a couple of hours on the PC working thru the Road book to generate the files that can be down loaded to the Satnav.

Its also a good way of seeing where the route is going as it uses Google earth and you can switch between roads and sat images.

Yes the Sat Nav can be very useful when you are tired and your co driver is kipping...
