  2. Just to chip in with my two penn'orth, but I've got a page report on the RBRR coming up in Classics Monthly issue 223, plus my usual two page diary spread is basically an extended conclusion/debrief on all the trouble I went through getting the car ready for the event, plus my thoughts on what turned out to be another great weekend all round :)

    Cheers,
    Matt

  3. Just to add, many people don't seem to rate the County pumps, but I've had a GWP201 on my car for almost four years now, with no issues. Including a successful 10CR and RBRR x2  :)

Remember the RBRR launch at the NEC, with Fuzz Townsend of Car SOS on the Club stand?
Well ,we have finally received an entry from The Car SOS team, who will be participating in this years prestigious flagship event.
The team will be in a 1500 Spitfire, which we hope will be a part of one of their TV programmes
Hopefully we will be entertaining an another on board magazine reporter to cover the whole event as well.
Lets hope they are successful in the event

    Hi Mike,

I'll be doing some sort of write up for Classics Monthly again, similar to the 10CR spread from last year :)

    Cheers,
    Matt

  6. Can't speak for either brand you mentioned, but I fitted the below to my saloon back in 2010.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-TRIUMPH-STAG-ALTERNATOR-UPRATED-65AMP-1973-1977-/160710411049?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item256b164329

Still doing a great job, fitted straight on and not a bad price either. Just a suggestion  :)

    Matt

  7. Nick,

I fitted the below H4 dipped beam kit (and also some separate relays) prior to the RBRR in 2012, along with the equivalent H1 main beam inners.

The difference is astounding compared to the old sealed beam versions, definitely a worthy upgrade!

  8. Hi Alec,

Thanks for the input. To be honest I was just thinking out loud, while still getting my head around what exactly sets the ride height of the car. I'm hoping that, given the rear springs on my car are quite likely to be the originals it came out of the factory on, then some fresh ones will address my problems.

    Matt

  9. No confusion at all Dave. Seems the general consensus is that you need both sets!

On the RBRR, did you notice any difference in how the car drove when it was fully loaded and down at the rear, or was it simply an aesthetic issue?

  10. Hi James. That's a kind offer. I had thought of getting both to be honest. From what people are saying, 475s may be the ones for general use, before swapping in the 575s for loading up the car for RBRRs and the like.

  11. Thanks both. My fear is that 575 will be a bit too firm. I'm thinking that the FR475s will be the right ones to go for. I usually run the Konis at half stiffness, so maybe setting them to full firmness in conjunction with the 475s for loaded up RBRR/10CR work will do the job?

  12. Hello all,

After a successful 10CR assault, I've now got a few additions on my 'To Do' list. Slinging my 2000 up the mountain passes revealed a few slight rear end issues, and the trailing arm bushes will be the first to be replaced. Having fitted Konis all round, but retained the original rear springs, they now need replacing too.

My question is whether to go for the PFL575lb Witor springs from Mr Witor, or the fast road FR475 options to match the 205/400 versions I have on the front. Basically, will the extra rigidity of the 575 versions offer a better improvement? Another part of the issue is that when the car is quite heavily loaded, there tends to be a fair bit of vibration through the body when accelerating upto speed. My thinking is that the original 278lb springs simply aren't upto the job on a car that has now received a number of performance upgrades, so both the FR475 and PFL575 springs will offer an improvement regardless?

If anyone can shed any light or experience here, it would be very much appreciated  :)

    Thanks,
    Matt

  13. I've got a 2.5 in my car, engine number MM27761HE. Head skimmed down from 3.475" to 3.430" at the advice of Chris Witor. Also got a 308778 PI cam, HS6s, Witor 6-3-1 and full sports exhaust.
I can confirm that such a concoction turns out pretty good performance  :)

Ok, real seal arrived, ripped all the transmission tunnel out this evenin', cleaned off all the oil and went for a hot breezy drive ..... turns out it's not the rear seal after all, but the speedo drive. Fabricated a washer from some nitrile rubber and it seems to have fixed it.

Will test again tomorrow, but driving without the tunnel in is mildly scary.  Hands near the handbrake far too near the propshaft.   ??)

    Hi Russell,

I've also got a leaking speedo drive on my car. What thickness of nitrile did you use? Also, what kind of gear oil do you favour? I've just started using semi-synthetic 75/90, and thinking that must be a bit more likely to leak than plain old mineral 80/90.

    Cheers,
    Matt

non airbag seats on original Alfa runners fit straight in, you just have to enlarge/ fabricate couple of  holes slightly.................................well on a MK1 you do.

The only disadvantage by using exisiting Alfa runners is that the seat does not go as far back as original Triumph ones. Saying that I am 6ft 1 and it suits me.

    Hi Lee,

Thanks for clearing that up. You know how tall I am, so may be an issue for me. If I'd have thought about it a bit more, I'd have asked to have a sit in your car at the weekend! Hey ho, if I can find a set cheap enough, then maybe I'll take a punt :)

    Matt

  16. Hi Roger,

Any pictures? Just to clarify, if I get a set of non-airbag seats, they will go in without any cutting of the Alfa runners or fiddling with the Triumph runners? The Alfa seats will go straight in with just a different set of bolts?

    Thanks,

    Matt

End of this month I'll be fitting my rebuilt original gearbox, new clutch kit, rebuilding front struts and swapping steering rack. Then finish refurbishing some 'S' alloys, get the tyres on and we should be good to go!

All of the above now done, apart from the steering rack, and what a difference  :) Now lining up an electric fan conversion, think this will be a must for the mountain climbing sections on the 10CR.
