  1. Hi Wendy. I've been trying these pressures and all seems ok. She holds the corners all right even in the wet, not many fast ones on my usual route.
  2. Thank you Wendy, I'll sort that out tomorrow. It should help with parking as well.
  3. I've read in the past about people with different cars, wheels, tyre's, and pressure's, a lot by trial and how they like their car to handle. I have a Herald saloon, I don't take passengers or have any loads in the boot. The tyre's that I have on are 155 x 60 x 13 on standard rims. What would be the ideal pressure's for them.
  4. I had to put a new set of tyres on my Herald after the MOT. I looked at loads of tyres all different prices. I phoned up Formula One Autocentres and they told me that I have a classic car and not to touch budget tyres. I mentioned Hankook, they said they had and I went there. All the staff have classic cars and this is what they put on. 155 80 Laufenn 79T. Fuel Eff: E, Wet Grip: E, Noise: 70db. The whole invoice came to £196.81. They are a nice looking tyre and fit well. Stephen.
  5. Thanks about the advice on the flooring. I'll get sorted out. About the shagging pile carpet, I've got that sorted. Some kind neighbour had their flat re-carpeted and through out of course the old one. This happens to be a lovely shade of green. The old carpet I think is light brown, but now dirty and worn, so a full carpet replacement is coming, I can't say when, but it's coming. I've new windscreen rubber to have fitted first before the above is down, and I'm going to get the rear done at the same time. Thanks, Stephen.
  6. Thanks for your advice, especially on allowing me to keep on smiling with all my teeth in tact. The reason that I want to remove the wheel is 1- there is a crack in one of the arms and 2- I want to put on a wooden one. I've got the one I liked on eBay and if anyone would like to have a peep the item number is 331396865739 and is sold by Watford Classics and it comes complete with the boss with a Triumph Badged horn push for £129.95 and free post. I've got the dark wood one to go as near as possible to the new dashboard I'm going to make upgrading the original one which I've already upgraded with extra clocks but this will have new and more switches. The ones I've got have a rely built in them for better use and saftey. I couldn't find anywhere the type of wood the dashboard is made of until I was in my local Homebase store and leaving from the tool section, I walked through the flooring area. There I saw the wood grained flooring panels, picked out the dark one, up to check out, and £4.99 please, perfect. So I can work on that after the car's running, very soon. Thanks, Stephen.
  7. Thanks lads. I've got a rubber mallet and some freeing oil so I can give it a bit of welly on Sunday. The rest of the week is taken up. I got the engine running yesterday, so bit by bit. Thanks, Stephen.
  8. Hi. I need to remove the steering wheel from my Herald. I've seen a 11 piece steering wheel remover puller set on eBay for £4.99 and free post. The item number is 262374394142 if anyone want's to check if this item is ok for me to buy. Thanks, Stephen.
  9. Thanks Mark, but I'm not up on that medical condition, but does it affect more than just the eye, but, if so, would a company employ a person with it as a driver in case it might affect their driving control. If a driver was giving me the wink wink, he might be driving with only one eye open for the rest of the day. Also, Mark, if you cannot read the small print of these messages use a magnifing glass, I find it hard sometimes, or you wanted to put the reply as worded. Maybe a better description other than WANKER ( ok Mark ) could have been found as the markings on the box Mr Magoo could read it. I will search my dictionary next time for a full and proper description. Thanks, Stephen.
  10. With previous information I bought the battery that I mentioned. I got a Exide Premium - 031 - 75Ah - 630cca - 4 years waranty oem replacement. I bought it on eBay from a company called Car Parts Bargin for £60.92. They used the courier DHL and the driver who delivered it to me was a wanker. He brought it to my door upside down. The box was well marked with arrows and words keep upright. When I opened it up and opened the clear plastic bag it was in there was like a yellow cloth/spunge material over it. In one corner it was wet. The battery had leaked. I got on the phone made the phone calls and was told a replacement would be sent to me from my nearest Euro Car Parts. They brought it the same afternoon. So why, when they used Euro Car Parts to bring the replacement, did they not use them in the first place. I would have had the battery the same day as my eBay purchase and they don't charge for delivery for any part. In my opinion they should dump DHL asap. Stephen.
  11. Thanks Cliftyhanger for your reply. Thanks Glang again for your reply and I've measured up the battery compartment and it does fit. The battery retaining rods will have to have new anchor points on the bulkhead which I've already worked out. I have already replaced my retaining rods with threaded rod bought from my local ironmonger at one metre length and cut to length and bent the bottom at 90% and put nuts down there and kept the battery retaining clamp at the front with nuts and washers which works well. I've bought the battery from eBay for £60.92 and it's arrining on Wednesday. Thanks again, Stephen.
  12. I need to put a new battery in my Herald. I've seen a nice one on eBay and I wonder if anyone knows if this size will fit. It's left to right - 230mm x top to bottom 222mm x front to back 173mm. It is an Exide Excell 60ah with 390cca. And as it sits outside and will not get too much use the alarm is the only thing to be on. Not forgetting the weather with cold and rain and snow and night there's the drain on the battery, so some reserve is all to the good. The battery that I have now is on charge as the alarm has drained its power. Thanks, Stephen.
  13. Hi glang & pigboy 306. It looks like that I should hold back on the cheap fans and if needed get good quality with the power thats needed. Hi JohnD. It looks like you know your onions on getting boiled up. I agree that an engine should not be run at that high tempreture. I understand that the running tempreture should be between 90 & 95 degrees and the thermostat fully open at 85 degrees. I've seen for some electric fans an adjustable thermostat for on and off settings, but as I've just said to hold off at the moment. I have a three row raditor which is a 50% up grade and seeing what the weather is like now, I don't think I'll need a fan especially as only short journeys at the moment are planed. So as I was going to do in the first place was to use bottled water and a good quality antifreeze. I have bought a new radiator cap, a FAH - LER SHOW CAP with the pressure release arm in chrome and is at 7 lb pressure. So I think that this should be the road to go down.
  14. Hi SCOTTY71. Thanks for your reply and new information. I would think that an expansion bottle would help as with water if that is going to happen. Hi FERNY. Thanks for your reply. I've done nearly all the servicing and repairs that I could on all of my cars. I've the engine out and stripped down and rebuilt because it was boiling up thanks to a doggy eBay dealer. The cylinder tops were all gunged up. I had it tuned and MOT'd by a garage which I've used for years. I've only done about 200 miles tops as being hit on a rounderbout on my way home from a classic car show by a Landrover Defender. Dale sorted that out after my insurance coughed up, so more months not on the road, but my wife is still very nervey about getting back in it. So now I have a good engine and a new radiator which I'd like to keep a clean and good cooling system. I was thinking of fitting an electric cooling fan but will I need it with my new three row radiator. Hi GLANG. Thanks for your reply. I've found both the reasons for boiling up and cured them. While off the road I've fitted new clocks which of course one is a tempreture guage and works. Yes, you are right and it should be checked right away. SUMMERY- This coolant is better than water and its rusting problem but does not boil and the tempreture gauge still has to be watched as with water. Not sure about fitting a electric cooling fan, driving will show that up. Thanks, Stephen.
  15. Ive had a new core put in my radiator as it was boiling up after the four and a half mile trip to the MOT station, same as last year. It did not leak though and I took it a shop to have the blocked tubes cleared. I told the bloke there what was wrong and left it with him and returned the next week. He told me that he'd put the air line on it and it leaks. Radiator now useless. I took it back from him thinking that this 87 year old twat should have retired twenty years ago. I went on line and found a place called Family Classics. He said bring it up to him, nice journey to West Norwood, and he'd sort it. He was pleased to see that it was an orignal Stanpart, and he then measured the width of the tank and told me that he could put in a three row core for me. Great I said, do it. I went to pick it up and what a weight, but for £180 that's a good price. Now before I put it back in and connect everything up, I have seen from Rimmers and Jay Lenos Garage Evans Waterless Coolent. This seems the best way to go as it does not boil up, and would save my system. Do any of you use this, if so can you let me have some feed back as it will cost about £120 plus but it a once only instalation.
