  1. I’ve just replaced all the front bushes on my MK3 GT6 to poly and have a question regarding the ARB bushes.

I have the original clamping kit/U bolt. As I tighten the U-bolt to get the clamp to sit on the chassis the Poly bush distorts more than I would like??

Should these poly bushes distort or is it a case of tightening the clamp just enough to keep its shape (Torque setting is only 4lb/ft) This would mean the clamp would not sit flat onto the chassis rail, alternatively is there a dedicated poly bush clamping kit.....🤷‍♂️

There has to be loads of you boys that have replaced these for poly......Thanks in advance 👍

  2. Just need to ask, when the windows are closed fully on both driver and passenger doors the glass does not seem to be fully up onto the top seal?

The glass on both doors stop at the top of the frame and look in a good position, the door gaps are or seem to be spot on but the top (unframed portion where the glass meets the pillars) catch marking the pillars, they also only sit about half way onto the top seal of the door leaving a gap of about 8 to 10mm.

Is there a way of lifting the whole frame and glass up so that the windows close fully onto the seal at the top and not catch the pillars?

When you say "front torsion bar" I assume you mean the anti-roll bar? Not a huge amount of tension. You should jack the car up (and put it on axle stands) for access, at which point the only tension it carries is if the bar itself is bent or the suspension is uneven side-to-side.

If you're doing the wishbone bushes you'll be unbolting the links at the ends of the ARB anyway. If the first one you loosen looks to be pulling down then put a jack under to take the strain. If it looks to be pushing up, do the other side first (and use the jack there). Once uncoupled, the mounting U-bolts are only supporting the weight of the bar.

    Thanks, it’s what I hoped 👍

  4. Not ever having to replace the bushes on the front torsion bar before, is this under any tension?

I'm fitting poly bushes to the front end which consists of upper/lower wishbones, steering rack & torsion bar - Any top tips appreciated 👍

Meant to add, all of that is going in the boot of the Spitfire on the RBRR.

    Preparation is everything.

    Jim.

You’ll make a small fortune selling that along the way 🤪

Perhaps we need to have a bit of a competition here, who can get the furthest from Knebworth before running out of petrol.

Acclaims not allowed to enter. 🙂

  6. I’m sure many on here have used the services of MBP garage or better known as Marino’s in Shrewsbury, be it for general servicing, Body work or MOT’s.

Marino is always happy to help and gives an A1 service, Brian allegedly enjoys nothing more than upsetting customers by finding MOT misdemeanours but in all honesty he is a very fair and sensible MOT tester that is always happy to chat and ensure your car is as safe as it can be (all guarantees are null and void as soon as you drive off his MOT ramp 😆)

If you haven’t used their services in the past it may be worth paying them a visit, there seems to be a few more Triumphs lining up of late, so word is obviously getting around.

A highly recommended garage service, pleasing to deal with and always happy to help where they can.

  7. If your sending anything to Germany be sure NOT to use DPD, there are massive issues with DPD at the moment not only from a customs perspective but their delivery service in general to Germany.

Items I sent out at the end of June are still missing although DPD assure me they are being returned to sender, I doubt I’ll ever see them again? Thankfully I did have them fully insured but still took over 3 months to get my money refunded.

  8. My own experience after taking my 1971 GT6 for a pre-MOT inspection and having a chat with the tester.

The car failed only due to having LHD headlights fitted which I didn’t even consider, even though I had imported it from Stockholm it never crossed my mind. However I never use it after dark, then again you never know, especially now the nights are drawing in. So new headlights were fitted and re-aligned.

As for emissions, the tester was not really interested in any of the readings as again due to its age it was pre any emission standards. Knowing what the recommended readings should be, I ask if we could adjust them down so at least it is running nearer standard, they were adjusted as close as possible without affecting idle or it’s running condition.

My personal feeling is that it is always better to have another set of eyes to check over your car, your own thoughts on its condition may differ significantly to an MOT tester that does inspections for a living, even if you don’t go the full hog and have an MOT certificate, a yearly inspection doesn’t hurt.

  9. When I signed in I had an error to say my credentials are wrong but still signs me in, later on changing to another page it just automatically signed me out?

i signed in again later and it worked as normal, very bizarre?

  10. Personally I can’t fault the Avon ZT brand, used them on most of my cars. I go by the data supplied with each tyre brand in relation to noise level, fuel economy and grip. You will find a lot of the premium brands fall well short when compared to other ‘not so expensive’ options so do your homework. I’ve always found the Avon tyres to last well and give good all round performance.

I've asked 4 club triumph members of the Shropshire group to log onto the site to get their feedback. 2 have tried so far and can't get access. Is this because the site is still restricted to just the website committe.

OK that makes sense. A couple of them from the Shropshire group had access last November when we did the first lot of testing so I assumed at least those two would have had access. It's not an issue but thought it strange as a couple of guys from the Cheshire group have been able to login.

After several attempts, I reset my password which allowed me access.
