  1. As some of you may know, our President Derek Pollock has written a book entitled; RBRR the first 50 years. We have been busy behind the scenes editing, proof reading and selecting suitable pics to go along with his words. The last chapter to have been written concerns this year's 50th anniversary run and could not, therefore, be written prior to the 2016 event. This has now been done and the book is now in final proofing with an expected publication date of around December 1st.

It will be available through Club Shop at £10 + £3.50 p7p if reqd. At 140 pages with some completely unique photos it represents the perfect stocking filler this Xmas, so don't miss out order yours as soon as poss to avoid disappointment. The cost of the book should produce a small surplus if we can sell them all which will further swell the record holding charity coffers too! Win-win eh?

  2. Having checked the a.m. scores Nige and I were joint 2nd with 155 except for the 7 time penalties we needn't have incurred - maybe we're not so sealion after all. There again to have slipped to 9th at the end (possibly we needed a nap!) might suggest otherwise. The pm session was way harder though but all in all I thought this was by far the best Warks Scatter so far, that it had clearly taken a serious amount of effort on the part of all those involved and generally was pretty spot-on all round - WELL DONE!

  3. Just to let everyone know that this is primarily a taster event designed mainly to garner support for the next and all future full on Solos. As such there will only be the one test at which you will get 3 timed runs in the normal manner with there being an award for FTD and that's the only one. We have pared this down to the minimum to keep the cost down - it doesn't cost any less permit wise (that's more than half of the tenner) to run one test than it does to run 4. If time permits we will allow entrants to have extra runs at no additional cost but we don't know how many takers we will get as you can simply turn up on the day and many may do so - or not!

It has been wrongly reported in the TR Register's information booklet that we will be kicking off at 10.00 - WE WON'T! We will start at around midday as we all have to get up there and get set up on the day. It has also been reported in the booklet that this forms a round of our Drivers Championship or Challenge - IT DOESN'T! This is a one-off stand-alone hoon around 😀

  4. May I be the first person to say here (clearly not first on Facebook though) well done to all the marshals, scrutineers, timekeepers, organisers and others who helped run the day, particularly Nigel Abdullah for doing by far the lion's share of the work prior to the day & a fair bit on the day. I would like to say a particular thank you to those marshals from other clubs who came along & helped to make the day run.

Many competitors may not have realised this sort of thing goes on but Nigel went to a recent Oxford MC Solo to help marshal/timekeep & we bagsied David Smith (aka Shirley? 😉 ) and possibly another marshal too in exchange. It's this sort of inter-club co-operation in times when it's getting harder to find enough support to run these events, which allows them to take place.

I don't know about anyone else but I had such a good time yesterday that I will be volunteering to help marshal/timekeep for another club myself in the future. If you don't feel similarly moved but did take part as a competitor yesterday, then perhaps you could voice some thanks and it might make finding all the necessary timekeepers next time easier.

  5. Come on guys, we need a few more entries than we currently have to make this event viable. If we don't get a few more pretty soon then we may have to cancel it which would be a great shame considering the trouble we've had finding a suitable venue and sweet talking people to get it organised. If you have an interest in this form of motor sport please support it.

  6. The Track Day is being run by the TR Register, primarily on the Friday morning on the circuit at Blyton. I believe that they intend to run 'taster' laps for beginners in the afternoon so that is when we will be running an Autosolo test.

It won't be a full day's Solo though, the idea is to do the afternoon with one test layout giving people 3 runs at it as per usual for a nominal fee of no more than a tenner just to cover the MSA permit and venue hire fee, and it will be a fairly simple straightforward design. If it turns out that there aren't too many people queueing up wanting a go we will allow those who have already had a go to go around again without further payment but it really does depend how busy we get. We may even reverse the test if it proves possible but that will depend entirely on how the afternoon goes.

What we're aiming for is to let people have a bit of fun, possibly at both disciplines without getting too competitive and also to encourage as many first timers as possible.

  7. In fairness Mike, even if you had a spare short shaft (ooer!) you would have still had a fair bit of fun to fit it. You either need to carry two fully built shafts (The brake backplates are handed even if it doesn't have the vertical link on it which is too but can easily be swapped) or you have to swap the bearing/trunnion housing, brakes & hub over from the old shaft (will you have a hub puller too?) or carry all these with you not assembled onto the shaft and 2 backplates then build it all up into a shaft assy including torquing the hub nut up to 110 -115 lb/ft (in a vice?) 'on the fly' at the side of the road.

Having twice had a driveshaft snap on me on an event I have thought it through and unless there are a number of you with the same length shafts on small chassis cars to share out the bits between you it just becomes untenable as the car would be so full of spares you wouldn't have room for all your other stuff and let's face it, with the smaller cars weight is always at a premium, unlike the big saloons and other IRS cars which all have the same outer hub unit anyway with only the male splined portion (ooer again!) of the shaft being different so you carry one of each of those plus a UJ (which we did - sorry Tony didn't see you/hear of your problem until too late) with ease.

People either need to get together in small groups before the event, which a number of people did, and share out tools/spares between them according to car type or else someone else needs to volunteer to take on the job of running the spares list for everyone - I reckon Rob was a Saint!

  8. Just in case anyone hasn't heard the news elsewhere, there will not be an AutoSOLO this year due to venue issues. To say that we are unhappy would be the understatement of not just this millennium but all of them. We will however do our combined best to get one sorted for next year early on to avoid a similar situation occurring.

  10. Well as you have now reached 12 entries can we assume that it will run?

Hopefully despite the poor turnout of Triumphs we should be OK to go, I'm really looking forward to it and I am in the middle of 'constructing' a new exhaust for Harold out of a Phoenix Spitfire Sports system, some bits of what looks like Dolly Sprint pipes to get the bends and possibly 1 off the shelf sleeve joint, at this very moment (nearly).

Bowler eh? A friend of mine has one of those incredible machines which I drove at speed across a ploughed field (nothing planted) and it felt like driving the Herald on a typical (these days) A road!

  12. Michael and Nigel are currently talking to people about this, the likely venue will be in the middle of the country probably a bit further North/West than Bovingdon and just west of the M1 - we think.............................

  14. It seems to have become impossible to book what used to be called MoD land these days, despite the game of e-mail ping pong involved for the last 3 months, with any assurance that you will be able to actually have it, less than 4 weeks prior to the intended date. That coupled with the not inconsiderable cost involved makes it a non-starter. We are currently talking to other people to see, as Michael has said, whether we can put something on later in the year, perhaps around October. It would be mighty helpful if those who are interested could say so here so that we have some idea of numbers - Ta.

  15. We are still currently struggling manfully with the seemingly near unfathomable process required to book a venue these days. We will have a definitive answer early next week (one way or another!!!!!!) at which point we hope to open the entry, God willing!

  16. Do you mean Chris Rabbets? I suppose we might get him and Val there, I'll work on them at the dinner this w/e.

Jason - I don't see why your mate with the mini shouldn't come again, more the better really.

Ref location we're considering either running the event a week earlier (assuming it doesn't clash with anything like CLM) next year or even possibly looking at a different venue for 2016 like, say, Finmere where Oxford are now running the Bocardo due to a load of NIMBY Knobbedz in Bicester Council refusing to let them use Bicester Heritage on noise grounds. Does anyone know of a way to celebrate and support our motoring heritage without making any more noise than a spider's f*rt? No, me neither! What a crap country.....................

  17. 10CR Announcement & Entry form will be in the next issue of Club Torque due to hit doormats (hopefully) around 13th - 15th November and precisely timed to coincide with announcement/entry form on the website. I will be putting in an entry in Maude (should be ready................) with crew members ? & ? - probably! So that's a definite maybe from me & a probable hopefully also from me  :-/ :o
