Not much help, but I think Andie and I will probably stay near Ypres, we'll go over on the overnight ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge spend the day in Belgium and see the Menin Gate ceremony.

That sounds like a good idea Sam. I have always wanted to see the ceremony but never made it yet. So maybe we will join you at your hotel

  2. Anyone given thoughts to what hotel they might be using?

Our team will be going over the night ebfore the start and should arrive in the Lille area around 18.30 French time.

Haven't started looking for a hotel yet but I imagine we'll choose somewhere cheap outside of Lille itself

  3. Well an event that moves it's start point each time is an interesting idea and it happens now with the Historic Counties Run.

That's also only one overnight too so it's not the RBRR, it is it's own event in it's own right which should suit more people.

Then there's the Border Raiders as a two day tour with no long days, schedule to hit and a hotel for the overnight. Again another event which has it's own character.

Not forgetting the 10CR which generally has different start points and is evolving into best part of a week tour with hotel stops.

So there's plenty of choice and the RBRR  is what it is. That's why I  have done 4 and nowadays put something back in by marshaling.

Just welding the TR7 Sprint back together after the Edinburgh Trial. Would be good to get it back for the 2016 Nachtrit. Thanks for the boot lid Beans. I left it natural with your flags on it.

You took part in this Andy?

I should be recording CT CHampionship points for you if so

  5. But wait a moment,,,,,,
didn't I recall correctly that quite a few of you were bemoaning the fact that there is no more overnight driving in the 10CR, and now they are all crying out for soft beds!......
Arhh, no pleasing them isn't it.

    D

I refer the honourable gentleman to 2005

Start at the Plough, Enfield - overnight drive to camping in Ventimiglia. The last night was also at a campsite. Of course anyone could choose other types of accommodation 😎

Not the attitude I expected from you Martin, I see it as a safety issue, and not one of how much of a test a drive is, I have done the 10CR on three occasions and found driving over 24 hours to be a dangerous one, RBRR included.
    Rob

It's entirely what should be expected from me Rob.

I respect your point of view including about the RBRR which is discussed again on a thread entitled "safeguarding the future of the RBRR" and which is judged to be safe.

I have taken part in 4 RBRR which have two overnight drives in succession.

As regards the 10CR I am proposing 1 overnight drive in 4 days or if you include getting there and back for me it will be 7 days so not excessive or unsafe in my opinion.

I will also be in a 3 man crew having driver changes every 2 hours with breaks - not one person driving continually for 36 hours!

  7. I note from the other "counter" thread that there is to be no overnight driving.

As Ellis says though, we are all free to make it what we want so

If I have anything to do with it my team will not be doing a namby pamby, shilly shally, hoity toity overnight in a hotel the first night - we'll be doing the magical drive through the night

For those likely to be offended by the terms used here - it's just a throwback to 2003

Entry will open with the November mag, limited to 60 cars, so don't hang about as it's filled within days the last 3 times... and remember, incomplete entries will not be accepted, so make sure your crews are confirmed... you have a month to sort it out!

Mine will be in the post as soon as I get the mag

    Hi Folks,
never ignore critisism. Some people call it feedback.

Consider the statistics- how many prangs over the years. Is it increasing, what was the underlying cause etc etc.
You can only do so much to ensure your back is covered but do it you must.
Keep the event running. It is one of the truly great runs for anybody that wants to stretch themselves.

    Roger

I can help with some stats as I keep them for the club's championships.

I have records for the RBRRs from 2006 to 2014.

516 cars, 6 accidents that I am aware of, 2 put down to diesel on the road, 1 blinded by oncoming traffic (these 3 being in 200 and one avoiding a kamikaze deer running into the road. As far as I am aware none were caused by tiredness.

From what I know so far there were no accidents this year so that would make the stats something like

    640 cars and 6 accidents - under 1%

There is no evidence that I am aware of  that "prangs" are increasing in occurrence.

  10. We are running the Border Raiders  this year even with a low entry.

Next year we will have to think carefully to balance the effort put in for the low level of interest. If we do run it then it could be a shakedown event but 2 month before the 10CR if we keep the same dates.

    Martin

Look what you have gone and done, he has gone and got all excited....

Gone and got all unnecessary! 😀

Well as I type this I am doing a recce on the Rhine. From my hotel room with view of said river I can of course see the barges and cruise ships but also the trains rattling by just over the road between us and the river

It has been quite a holiday road trip really very like a 10CR.

Martin, if you're looking for nice roads to drive (and you haven't been there yet) don't miss the "Strada della Forra" in Tremosine! Some videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?q=brasa+schlucht
The whole southern area, with hills and castles, is enjoyable too.

Are you there (well, I should say here) with a classic car?

I am here with what may be a classic in years to come ' my MINI Cooper S Roadster which has been great fun with 185bhp available 🙂

  13. Apologies it's so early and the RBRR hasn't even happened yet  but how I wish it was 10CR time again.

OK so I am currently on holiday in Lake Garda and have driven the Furka pass today - that might have something to do with it

    Just saying - that's all

  14. Thanks  guys.

It needed to be east west.

Also I sprayed WD40 in the key hole earlier. That freed the button off and I was able to push it in - hey presto glove box lid open 🙂

  15. The lid on my mk2 2000's glove box is jammed shut.

Before I start prizing away at it I just want to check about how it is locked.

When unlocked is the key north south or east west. Should the button be pressed in?
