  1. Started to dismantle 3 Diffs.

None of the Diffs had  the Shims ATA7039 / 134075 for the sunwheels fitted. Adding Lightness?
I obtained two sets from two suppliers on the continent. One set is brass one set is kind of plastic?

All had the same pinion shim of 2,01 mm fitted. Standardization?

The smoothest running one was missing two half teeth at the crownwheel   ;D

    Lets see how it evolves.

  2. Hi,
try to do my diff  of the Spifire 1500. Late diff with collapsable spacer.
In my (german translated  ;) ) manual the preload is written as 1,8 - 2,77 kgf/m. Isn´t that a bit high? In my manual of the GT6 ( an original one) the preload for the solid spacer diff is mentioned up to 0,193 kg/m.

Does someone have an original Spitfire manual and could check?

    Thanks

  3. Hi,
removing the Estate roof of a Herald, is there some fixing at the B-post?
I  cannot find any in the workshop manuals. However roof seems to be firm there. I do not want to damage something.
Should I remove the rear windows first? Or lift the roof a bit and then easier to get the rear windows out?
    Cheers

  4. Hi Adrian,
    for my GT6 I used the T9 from a V6 2.8 (flavour 4 in Nick´s list  :) ). Got it "A1" reconditioned from BGH.
    Adaptor plate from Canley.

Definitely the 4-cylinder T9 has a too short input shaft for the 6 cylinder bellhousing.

    Cheers

  5. So lets sum up:

The valances that are good, there I have to remove the "strip"
Fibre Glass: hhmmm, seem to be okish, but I hope I only need one rear left hand one after having dismantled them. So then I will most probably  stick to metal there.

Car has really not much rot (lived in Christchurch, NZ until 199x?)

@ encom: may take some time to report back  :)  ;)

    Cheers

  6. Hi,
if I want to change from rubber to alloy bumpers on a Herald 1360, do I need other valances? Or do I have to remove the "strip" where the rubber is mounted?

What is the quality of the glass fibre valances? Do they fit?

  7. Hi Hazen,
you mounted the brake shoes not correctly. On the picture (top pic of the last three pics) where you see the three brake assemlies / halfshafts, the left pic shoes your reconditioned brakes. The mid brake assembly shows the correct mounting of the shoes.
    Guess why I know ....

  8. I just took the early Spitfire Tandem one for the GT6 as the GT6 Tandem one was not available.
It was originally a UK car with single master, so I changed the front 4 way union to a 3 way union and installed a separarte brake line to the rear
With Mintex 1144 pads it works very well.

  9. Hi,
I do it similar to Alan. However I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I remove the connection to the engine oil gallery and pump oil into it with an oil gun. It fills nicely the oil gallery and from that the crank / cam.
Works fine and done within a minute.

  11. Hi Steve,
I converted our Spit 1500 this spring to a Servo assisted brake. At the same time changing from EBC green stuff to Mintex 1144.
Yes, pedal a bit spongy, as I changed to Silicone fluid as well.
    It transformed the brakes.
I don´t want to miss this set up any more.
