  1. That filter looked as if it had collected a lot of crud. I changed mine because the plastic had become opaque, the filter was clean inside. ,Obviously petrol in Normandy is cleaner than in Belgium 😁

Great way forward with a project - get it running, on the road, enjoy driving it and the progressively improve it!
Keep us updated and post lots of pictures!

Totally agree. Get it on the road, enjoy it and you will then find what needs to be done and what can be left until later.

No, just that they know they are not great, and if you want to fit one be prepared to tweak it.

Maybe you have the skill and equipment to 'tweak' one, I don't and would expect it to fit if sold as suitable for my car and not as a generic fits all.

the 100th anniversary of the first Quatre-Vingt Heures de Le Mans in 1923.

Back then it might have felt as if it lasted 80 hours but it was only 24 😉

There was also an old circuit near Rouen that used public roads. Modern road improvements does still mean that a part of the old circuit is still a public road.

  5. I got my metric speedo back from the restaurer and decided to fit it to replace the imperial one, The imperial one works (other than the trip) fine but I wanted a metric one plus the trip works. Fitted without too much knuckle grazing

Then thought I'd carry on and replace the brake master cylinder, that too went fine until I dropped one of the washers that fit between the pedal top and brake cylinder piston. No sweat, not a special washer and chancer are it is in the footwell. Yes there it was on the mat under the brake light switch that was hanging loose. 2 jobs done 1 new one on the list - Grrrrrr....

Good job. My laptop buggered up BLUE SCREEN While trying and failing to fix it, it fell on the floor and instantly worked again. Happened a few times after. Drop on floor again allways sorted it.

So now we have 2 methods of dealing with computers that play up, the good old 'switch it off then on again' and now the upgrade alternative 'drop it on the floor'

It's getting a bit complicated for me all this computer maintenance stuff 🙄

  7. Decided to go and pump up the tyres on the 13/60 this morning as I haven't checked them for a while, the car hasn't been used either lately - just a drive to the local garage for some brake work, a drive home and a test run.

So, equipped with pump and pressure gauge, first wheel (front) : reading 2.5 bar. Odd that, I run them at 1.8bar front 2.0 rear. Other 3 wheels at the same 2.5 bar pressure.

Thinks N°1 :Maybe I had put the pressure up for winter, Can't remember doing it.

Thinks N°2 : Pressure gauge faulty? I know, check it against the pressures on the modern. They read as they should. Not pressure gauge then.

Thinks N°3: Maybe the mechanic checked them and thought they were a bit on the low side so pumped them up to 'normal' pressures. . .

Anyway instead of pumping them up I let them down.

Life has its ups and downs. 🙄

  8. Fitted it to my drill, needle, total & trip moved. The registered speed wasn't very stable or consistant - for the moment I'll put that down to variable speed on the drill and / or workings of the speedo damp from being in store for years etc. Unit, less glass now on top of boiler to gently dry out.

Glass came out in 1 piece(phew!) with a little bit of care. Cleaned up nicely. Metal rim given a coat of paint to freshen it up.

I'll put a new O ring in the chrome part, either a new one if I can get something locally 100mm diameter seems to be the size or cut up one I have that seems to be about right in cross section but far too big.

  9. I've just received a new, for me, piece of equipment that once fitted will result in me cruising not at an indicated '50' but '80'. Wow what a boost!

Yes, a speedometer in Kms not Miles to replace mine. It will make travelling a little easier with signs in Kms and the car recording the distance in miles. The big plus is the trip works, mine has never since I got it and I am too much of a coward to take it apart.

I need to take the glass of to give it a clean on the inside and probably dust the face.

I have thought, briefly of trying to reset the total distance to the metric equivalent of the reading on my imperial one, but as said too much of a coward.

Now, serious question : I want to confirm it works so does the cable turn clockwise or anti clockwise when viewed from the front or back?

Think its a bit of an unusual place to have it for space and proximity to possible interference sources although close to radio I suppose.

When I got my 13/60 there was a retractable aerial fitted in the same place. I changed it as it didn't fully retract any more with a new one that does.

Have you thought of fitting a flexible ariel like those fitted to the roofs of VW Golfs etc. if you can get one, then you can just unscrew it and store it in the car?

Even simpler just fit a standard retractable one.
