    Fuel Jets

The car seems to run fine but a little rich.... And any adjustment to the carbs to make them run lean makes the carbs start to hunt. The smoothest running is a little rich, however this makes the plugs carbon up.

    Fuel Jets

I have rebuilt the carbs but not replaced the jets. Why is it the pistons stick on one carb on rebuilds?

    Fuel Jets

I have an early Mk2 and shes is running a little rich. If I try to make her leaner she doesnt like it and hunts. Even if I try to adjust the timing she still complains. Would a different set of jets make any difference? My carbs adjust from the bottom on my Strombergs CD150. I do have a set of Mk1 carbs but imagine that the wont work on a Mk2
  4. Thanks Tony and Rob. I think I will skip on that for now and do the other jobs first.😉
  5. I have a lot of play in my steering wheel? When the bonnet is opened and one looks down to the steering shaft where it enters the cars bulkhead thats where the play is. There are two rubber bushes and just below them the UJ joint. It seems as if something has gone adrift on my steering or something is very badly worn?
  6. Will these carb fit my 2000 mk2 1969 Auto? Zenith Stromberg CD150SEV 3334L and 3334R?   Mine have the mixture adjusts underneath on the float bowl. Cant see how to adjust these (if they fit)?
  7. Would a faulty coil mean that I would need to keep the choke open a little? As thats what I have to do!
  8. Thank you Pete and I have had that many teas over this car 😀 I dont know if you know but it has been upgraded to an alternator?
  9. Ok timing has now been done and checked both dynamically and statically. Advance and retard checked and works original dizzy fitte Mixture set at 1.5 turns from full in. Went for my first drive in this lovely weather and still the same problem persist. The car is missing under load. And then it happened !!!!!!! The car broke down in the middle of the town (of course). It was firing at all!!! After 15 mins of a red face it came back to life. I think that the previous owner told me that the car had done this to him and he had changed the coil.
  10. Thank you for that clear information As soon as the weather improves  will give it ago. Thank you again
  11. After a lot of messing about to what I thought would be a simple job the an original dizzy is finally back in the 1200. 😲 I have set the static timing as follows... There is a hole in the crankshaft pulley which I understand to be the top dead centre? I aligned the hole with the points just about to open.. and yep she started up and so did the rain   So thats as far as I got yesterday! Next will be the dynamic timing! ( I watched some chap doing his timing on 948 Herald but the video wasnt that clear ). 🤔 Do I put some correctional fluid on the crank shaft pulley hole and make sure its in line when I use my timing light?  (Light connected to number 1 cylinder) Thank you all again for your help
  12. Well I thought that I would have a look at my dizzy before the second hand unit arrives on Monday. Something interesting it is not a genuine unit and it also doesn't have the 'Vernier adjuster wheel'? The gap between the points is about 0.012 ( although parts look new the points look pitted) and it looks very cheaply made. (Chinese maybe? ) I took out the spark plug and found it very sooty and sweep! The spark plug insistently is a NGK BP6HS I dont know if thats correct or not but anyway I have ordered 4 Champion L87Y copper core plugs. The points and condenser are Breu that I have got arriving on Monday. So weather permitting I will fit them on Tuesday
  13. lo up date. I have managed to speak to last owner who knows little about cars and said it doesnt have electronic ignition but old school. He also went on to say that he did change the points a couple of years ago but couldnt remeber  is he ever changed the condenser. So maybe the condenser is the course of this problem. When one arrives  next week I will let you know if this finally solves the problem. I will kick myself if this is all it is.....
  14. Is my dizzy cap going to be a side entry for a 1965 1200 saloon?
  15. Thanks for your reply! It does sound very similar to the problems that you had with your 2000. I have called Triumph grave yard after your good advice about replacing the dizzy and they are going to send me a dizzy this Monday £20 all in. Dave at Triumph grave yard said also that genuine condensers are also becoming harder to find but said that the condensers in the new electronic dizzy seem to be the main problem. ( If I understood him right? ) So im going to see if I can find a genuine condenser and points. Weather permitting we shall see next week when pats arrive if all is well...... Thanks again Karl
  16. Im just wondering why its was changed to electronic ignition in the first place??? I feel it must also be electric as if it was a fuel problem it wouldn't just go away when warmed up.
  17. Sorry for a late reply but work and things Any way time for an update.... As said the solex is back on the car and I took the car for he first drive since putting the solex back on. Well.... all seemed well with a little choke and a beautiful drive for about 4 or 5 miles until she warned up! I dropped the wife off at work and then went to pull away ... and yes the problem returned... it almost feels as if the car isnt running on all cylinders. Im having to over rev the engine from start off in order for it to have any power. My first thought is the coil but that looks new and is made by a branded company. I tried tuning but this only in sort of increases the revs or decreases the revs but doesnt make the car run any smoother. Also after adjustment and a quick blip of the throttle the engine note changes again???? I have tried to pull the choke out a little to see if this helps but again only increases the revs and not performance.
  18. Hi, yes I have a timing light but its hard to see the timing marks so I may need to take off the front grill. I have seen an arch when pressing the starting button from under the bonnet but only sometimes and only on start up.. Yes It seems to idle fine but likes the choke on a little. The problems shows up  when the engines warmed up. An other interesting thing is..... the car has been fitted with a brake servo and also some gauge inside to show you how economically you are driving (Not added by me)..... So im wondering if these two extra vacuums that have been fitted maybe taking the vacuum needed by the electronic ignition? But this wouldn't effect the car when its hot would it????
  19. Hi all and again thank you for your support! 🙂 Well i am back to a good square one. I have refitted the solex carb that I was having problems with! But there is such an improvement to the running compared to the Stromberg CD 150. I havent had chance to try to tune it again but i am sure that the problem on take off will return when hot ( may be coil )? Plus because I have the car outside whilst I have been trying to sort the carb out I have now a nice swimming pool in the passengers foot well. (Maybe door seal )? So, do you all think that I still need to change the fuel pump or electronic ignition too improve this take off problem?   Thanks Karl
  20. Hi Mark The weather down here in East Sussex is pretty grim today so I have had chance to do anything. Im also worried about this electronic ignition that has been fitted and was wondering if the advance and retard system was functioning as it should be. Am I right in believing that this advance retard works mainly on the first part of the acceleration? 🤔
  21. Hi Pete Well I think that I read on this forum some time ago that it was said that a single CD 150 was a good replacement for the solex carb? I havent changed anything in the carb??? I didnt understand what you meant about this pulsing problem and solution? If I fit the solex carb on then im back to the same mess as I was in the first place!!! 🤔 When I try to pull away the car holds back and kicks. As said I have checked to see if the swan neck is squirting fuel and it is! Also pump diaphragm is fine with no holes. When the car goes past the first stage then the car drives fine. It makes me look like a learner lol as the car bucks
  22. Mark I was just thinking!!!! 😎 I did noting that when I start the car from under the bonnet I sometimes see a spark or arch??? But it disappears as soon as the car starts. And yes your right there is no mesh filter in the top part of the pump for some strange reason? What about if I rig up a bottle of fuel and hang it onto the bonnet and directly into the carb and see if that makes any difference? That would rule out blockages or pump problems? Thank you all very  much for your help and support. I will keep you posted. Regards Karl
  23. Wow thanks for your replies. I was in the Toyota forum and would have to wait days for one or two replies 😀 Well you chaps know much more than I do, so weather permitting  I will fit the solex back on tomorrow. I have cleaned and cleaned and replaced what I can on the solex with this running problem still persisting. I would love a pair of SU but they dont come cheap. By the way the fuel isnt old as I put fuel in the car maybe 4 weeks ago.   So im at a loss still.   Things done! Timing done. Checked  vacuum for leaks. Carb cleaned. Fuel supply checked! Yet still no lift  off
  24. Yes Tony I have checked for a vacuum leak with the brake cleaner and no changed in engine note. Wont a fuel pump have problems under load and not idle? No there was no filter strangely.   Cars cars cars ay? 😀
