  1. Many thanks for the lead of Ivor Searles, I recall seeing some good reviews from this company. I am not necessarily looking for any significant tune up, but looking for something like a stage 2 set-up, which I believe was available from the Factory back in the day, this hopefully giving a bit more power, but still a fully useable road car. If anyone has a stage 2 tuned engine powering their GT6 it would be great for some feedback on how it performs / drives.
  2. Thank you for the reply. I am in Derbyshire, but I can either take the engine to the company, or the car with engine in. I don't mind traveling for the right quality.
  3. My Triumph GT6 engine could do with the head rebuilding and hardened valve seats for unleaded fuel. I am also thinking of a few upgrades to power. Eg higher lift cam and maybe different carbs to the CD150's I have today.  Many of the contacts I had before for Triumph engine work have gone out of business. Can anyone recommend a good and reliable engine rebuilder that specialises in these straight 6 engines ?
  4. Thanks again for all the advice. I stripped the carbs at the weekend and did find the issue.  With the air filter and intake elbows off. I turned the ignition on to pressure the fuel pump and I could see fuel being forced through the jets and into the manifold as described earlier in this thread. Stripping the carbs down to see what was going on I found that a former owner must of put the needle valves back in without a spacing washer for getting correct float height. Therefore, the float was extremely high and allowing fuel through the jet. I purchased new needle valves and set the float height per instructions using the spacers, re-tested it, and no fuel coming through any longer with just the ignition switched on. It runs an absolute treat now, and no wonder I was permanently running rich on idle ..........
  5. Thanks for the help. Correct. It is an electric fuel pump, so I can only think its the carbs. I have had issues starting it in recent weeks and a bad smell of fuel, leaving it for some hrs can sort it out and then she fires up. The bore washing theory could therefore be the source. I have just heard the fuel pump ticking over slowly with just the ignition on, meaning it is pushing fuel through when it isn't running, so I am more going in the direction that it is a float valve that is stuck.
  6. Hi, Can anyone help with an oil pressure issue I have on my Stag ?. I have petrol going in my oil, which I believe is the reason the oil pressure is low (more so on idle) as my oil is now extremely thin and smells really strong of petrol. Is this a likely reason for low oil pressure ?. I guess I can switch my oil to see if that returns the pressure to normal, but I need to stop fuel getting into my oil sump or I will be back to this thinned down oil in some weeks. Can this be something like a sticking float valve in the carb(s) that is dumping too much fuel through ?, or something like this ? Many thanks Ian.
  7. Thanks Nick & Laurence. Good advise on the 330lb / 10.5" free length springs. I am on Gaz ride adjustable shocks, which seem to be set at mid point on the +/-, but once I am up running with new springs I can adjust that as needed to stiffen or soften things up a bit. I would rather not go too soft as regards springs and end up bouncing around. Regards Ian.
  8. Thank you all for the replies. The car is not sitting any different than I would expect, but for sure it is very hard suspension, however I do not have a comparison !. Net conclusion is that my springs are too short, and nothing cable ties will resolve. I will therefore replace with standard ones, which I believe will put the ride as it should be.  Thanks again Ian.
  9. Hi. I wonder if anyone can help. I purchased a GT6 Mk2 last year and I noticed when I jack the front end up my front springs are loose. When my front end is off the floor my springs measure ~8.1/2" whereas the extended length of the Gaz shock absorber is ~10". The ride height seems to be OK when the car is on the ground, but looking at some data I believe my springs should be more like 13" when fully extended, or maybe I have the wrong shock absorbers on it ?. Can anyone advise so I can correct this as it's a little tricky lowering the car back down holding springs in place so they mount correctly. It is also likely that the suspension is not performing as it should either Kind Regards Ian
