  1. Thanks, it is a Vitesse. I didn't want to strip out the tunnel cover if it didn't need it buty I couldn't see any other way. Cheers, Ron
  2. When I was working on the engine and gearbox during the restoration I had the luxury of not having any body parts on the chassis to get in the way! Now that I need to get to the clutch slave cylinder am I right in assuming that I'll have to remove the transmission tunnel cover and attack it from the inside? Cheers, Ron :o

    vitesse carbs

I don't know if this will be of any help to you but I had a similar problem with a fast tick over when I was recommissioning my Mk1 Vitesse. In the end I traced it to the carb piston not returning all the way down to the bridge, effectively behaving as if the adjustment screw was in too far, but they were screwed fully out, as was the choke (which in fact was completely disconnected at this point). With the carbs off the car it was obvious to see. I cured it by carefully polishing the pistons with 2000grit wet and dry and then using a metal polish to finish them off. They run a treat now. Strombergs can be a bit of a bitch to set up but I think that generally they're a good carb.
  7. Thanks Pete, I'll contact Bill. One of the slides has come adrift and the actual channel is falling apart.

  9. Does anyone know where I can get a left hand door glass carrier/channel for a Vitesse/Herald? Canley Classics and Rimmers say they're no longer available. I have a spare right hand one but the passenger side one has just fallen apart through a mixture of old age and rust! Cheers

  11. Hi, The starter solenoid on my Vitesse recently gave up the ghost (it was the original one!) and was replaced by a new one. However when I try to start the car now all I get is a loud clunk. I'm guessing that the starter motor is either stuck or kaput. Do you think that would be a reasonable assumption to make before I get underneath the car? Cheers

    Door glass adjustment

Well, I've moved the glass within the channel to the correct measurements and that's certainly sorted out the problem of the glass not going up high enough. But if anything it's made the glass overlap the B post even more. I'm really at a loss now and have decided to give it a rest for the moment. There are other jobs that I ned to do and then I'll come back to this problem last.(Otherwise I might take a lump hammer to it!!)

    Door glass adjustment

I can see now from my own photos and the diagrams posted by marktheherald (most useful and thanks, by the way) that my glass channel isn't quite right. It's too far back on the glass, this will certainly stop it going to the top of the quarterlight channel. The glass channel is also more horizontal than the diagram shows, this may well account for the glass leaning towards the B Post. Over the weekend I'll take the glass out again and reposition the glass channel and keep my fingers crossed, watch this space, as they say. Cheers, Ron
