  1. Hello all. I need to buy a new hood for my Mk3 restoration , and would appreciate any comments from those of you who have fitted , or had fitted a new hood, as to which supplier you consider to make the best fitting hood. I am not looking to buy the cheapest, but obviously price is allways a consideration. One concern is that prices do seem to vary tremendously, for what appears to be similar material, and what one supplier sells as premium quality, another may sell as standard. At the end of the day, I just want a hood that looks as if it was made for the car, and not like it has been adapted from something else, as some I have seen. I realise a lot is down to how well they have been fitted, but a well made hood should fit better, and look better for longer. BTW I do want to stick with original type material, not Mohair or any other non original material. Thanks for any help with this. John
  2. Thanks very much for all your help .
  3. Thanks very much for your replies. Just one thing, if I buy the Mk1V retainers, and they fit ok !!  Do I need to use the Mk3 or the Mk1V seal.
  4. Thanks for your reply, I should have said that this is a 1968 Mk3 Comm no FD14750 . The car had a hardtop fitted from new, and never had a soft top. The screen frame has the fixings for the later type hood latches, so I brought a secondhand frame with similar latches. I don't know whar year Mk3 it came from, but it had the seal retainers fitted, or what remained of them.
  5. Need to fit a new seal retainer to header rail. James Paddock only list the retainer in three parts for a Mk1V, and Rimmers list a Mk3 as the same part numbers as Paddocks do for the Mk1V. Graham at Paddocks say they are different, and this would seem to be correct, as the seals are different. Can anyone tell me if the retainers are the same on Mk3 and Mk1V, or if the Mk1V retainer can be adapted to fit, or where I can get the correct Mk3 retainer from. Thanks in advance for your help John
  6. Thanks for replies. Tim that is exactly the problem I have with mine. Lip is deeper than the seal. I will do as you have. Thanks. John
  7. Hi all. I have brought a new plastic gearbox cover for my Mk3 Spit, but it has a return lip all round the bottom edge, and round the front. This holds it up off the floor too much which means the bulkhead support bracket will not fit, and also pushes it back too far making it very close to the gearlever. Has any one fitted one of these, and did you have to remove this lip before fitting ?

    MK3 Door Skin

If the door is kicking out along the entire length ! Have you loosened the hinge mountings on the door frame. There is some adjustment on them to allow the door to be tilted in and out from top to bottom. The other thing to check is the diagonal measurements of the bulkhead, ( from a fixed datum point on the floor on one side to a point on the dash top, door frame or something on the oposite side ). They should be the same, but if you find that the measurement is shorter on the side your door sticks out at the bottom, that could possibly be the cause. Try fitting an extra gasket behind the top hinge to A pillar mounting.
