  1. Thanks bainzy, good advice, I removed the gear box and changed the release bearing bushes, push rod and checked it all, all looked good. So I went to manners and got a clutch kit put it all back together and I now have a perfectly workin clutc. Problem was that I bought a clutch kit from the stonliegh show a couple of years ago which was labeled up as a1500 1980 spitfire. Don't know what is really for but is different to the one I got yesterday. Anyway, all sorted now and thanks to all who responded.
  2. Hi, the pedal feels like a proper clutch and goes to the floor and pivot arm moves but still can't get first gear without too much force.
  3. Hi, by grinding the bolt I thought I could adjust the slave in as far as I need and mark it before I start grinding my groove in the slave body. The picture is interesting in that it seems quite a distance that you have adjusted it in. As I said I have gone in a further 20mm and thought that was a lot so thought the problem might be elsewhere. I will give it another go on Tuesday, thanks for the pics.
  4. Hi all, thanks for the advice, I have ground the side of a spare pinch bolt away just enough to ease the slave cylinder in to try and find out where it needs to be before I grind the body of the slave cylinder. I have had to move it in about 20mm so far which is why I am questioning the sloppy arm on the master. Car is at work so I can't check the possibly elongated hole under the gator until Tuesday morning.
  5. Hi Andy, The fluid is new, Roger.
  6. Good news, ( I think ) there is no movement at the crank pulley so hopefully not 'thrusted'. adjusted the slave cylinder in a bit and got it in gear but not very smoothly so its progress but not right. got quite a lot of play on the rod coming out of the master cylinder but no signs of clutch fluid. Could the master cylinder be not good enough to push the slave cylinder without showing any leaks?
  7. hi alll, I have had a problem with my clutch not engaging and not being able to select any gears. After reading some articles in books and on the forum, I put it down to the friction plate sticking to the fly wheel because of lack of use. I tried the usual methods of freeing it off but in the end I took the gear box out. When I did so the friction plate was free and no signs of sticking. I put it all back together and still nothing. It is anew clutch, release bearing and slave cylinder. On pressing the clutch the pivot arm appears to be moving ok. Has anyone got any ideas what could be the problem. thanks, Roger
  8. Very strange! turned the ignition this morning and all is working again ( well, all that was working before). Think it might be a good idea the clean all the contacts as mentioned previously while I have got good access.
  9. Hi I have a feed in and out of the bottom fuse, but nothing to the top two, checked them and changed them for new but still nothing?
  10. Hi Whilst checking some of the wiring under the dash, I moved a white cable and it touch the gear box and knocked all my electrics off. I checked the 3 fuses on the bulkhead which were all OK. What else could it have tripped out?
  11. Thanks Guys, all fixed and working as a clutch should. Now on to next problem.
  12. Thanks Richard, I will give that a go tomorrow. Roger.
  13. Hi Richard, I stripped the car two and a half years ago. Sent the gear box off for refurd as it was making a rattling noise. I replaced the clutch with a new kit that I picked up from the Stonliegh show and the engine and box sat there for about one and a half to two years. Managed to get it started last week. I have refurbed the master and slave cylinders with new seal kits which seem fine with no obvious signs of leaks.
  14. Hi, just got my 1500 spit running. Whilst it was still on axle stands i thought i would try the gears but although the clutch pedal felt good I could not get any gears. Bled the master cylinder again, still nothing so removed the master cylinder and the clasp that holds it. There is a little play in the pivot arm but it does'nt feel right. Any one got any ideas?
  15. Thanks Guys, sounds a bit of a no brainer, I will have a look around at the different makes available.
  16. Hi All, I need to replace the coil, leads, points and condenser on my 1980 1500 spit. Question is , if i am doing this, is it worth getting an electronic kit? Whats the pros & cons?
  17. Morning Molten, Happy new year! thanks for the advice and pics.
  18. Hi Molton, I certainly need to invest in some POR 15, pics are looking good. Also noticed you have a door gap stay. Was this a bolt on type or did you weld a bar in. Nearly ready to remove my tub now, so your pics are helping.Cheers, Roger.
  19. Hi Molten, I see you have used POR 15 on the chassis, but what are you using for the springs, and calipers and engine? I am a bit further behind than you and just want to get some advice as the pictures look good. Roger
