  1. Not sure that's what you do to balance the carbs as both throttles are held together by the spindle. You first have to slacken the spindle clamps then set the throttles and when balanced tighten up the spindle clamps. I use this sort. Why not call the Area Organiser in your part of Kent and ask if anyone might be able to help?

  2. Also think about what the water pump is doing at tickover, not going too fast. Electric water pump with a thermo switch would compliment an electric fan. Mechanicals...daft isn't it, when the cooling needs most help it doesn't get it, when it needs it least it has masses of help???

  3. If you send me your details I will forward to you (or anyone else for that matter) a 'word' doc that runs to several pages on how to fit MX5 seats to a Spitfire. I would imagine it wouldn't be too different to a Herald.

  4. Can't seem to detect where I'm getting the play on the outer column. However, I took off the steering wheel, horn disc and stalk switches and cut the rubber lugs off the existing top bush. Now, how to knock then down the tube? We looked everywhere for a tube that would slide down between the actual column and the outer column. Then my son spotted my daughter's bike and said "What about the seat tube?". This could have been made for the purpose, slides down just right, a bash on the top and the old bush slide down. The new bush was knocked down using the tube and the lugs liners up. Job done. I'll have another go at the outer column...but I'm having to do it by feel. Hhmmm...perhaps a mirror, I'll raid Sarah's make up bag!

  5. My alternator fried my battery on a motorway in Belgium...back in 2002. I was collected and taken to a garage at about 6pm and they had a new battery and alternator fitted by 9am the next morning. Footman James paid for everything other than the parts and labour, even an extra night in a hotel and extra for the ferry. No idea where it happened but we found a bar that night that sold home-brew wheat beer. What a night!
