There's only reference to SU needle selection for the later cars that use spring loaded needles. The early cars use fixed needles and there's next to no documentation of SU needle selections used for various states of tune on the 1147cc engine. Had to do it by trial an error for mine. If anyone's interested can pass on the info. James' needle comparer is invaluable. Nice one. Also other people's experience and guidelines for various states of tune for any size engine/cam are only guidelines because each engine is different so to get it perfect for your particular engine whatever the carbs is down to you ulimately methinks.
