  3. its black steel and the top is flatish
  4. thanks is this a lucas distributor or AC on a 65 vit 6 there are no makings on it
  5. as one extra bit fo info i noticed when it did this the last time few weeks ago before it stopped completely it started to run rough like it was missing or running out of fuel , i managed to get home with it and thought i had some fuel problem so by the time i got some extra in a can it had cooled down and started okay so assumed that was the problem. after last night it was clearly not the case. what puzzles me it ran for 30 miles at 70mph with no problem soon as i changed down a gear it stopped?
  6. thanks for all reply's, the carbs are strombergs, re the sparks there was a spark at the pionts with the ignition on touching with a screw driver if that's what you do, does that mean its not the coil ?
  7. thanks for your reply not sure didn't check that to be honest how far would i have to go to get the coil hot or as they dont seem that expensive should i just replace it if its a supect , ive not done so my ownership. what about the control or regulator box. one thing i notices on my run yesterday was the radio was very crackly like it needed suppressing don't think its the actual radio itself, could the coil or regulator do that
  8. if anyone can help i have a vit 6 1965 that will not start after it gets hot, once it cools down for a good hour or so it will start. last night i did 30 miles on a motorway, ran no problem then as i came of and changed down it just died like it had run out of petrol . when i tried to restart it turns over but doesn't fire im  no mechanic but im assuming it could be a number of things, points condenser, coil or dist cap or even the control box possibly as its a poss earth dynamo. its not fuel there was plenty in and petrol was pumping out from the pump. anyone any suggestions what it could be something breaking dow when hot?.  or do i just bite the bullet and replace all of what i mentioned.
