  1. Hi I have a 1500 Spitfire, which I am aware has worn valve guides, odd puff of smoke here and there and above average use of oil - its on my to do list. The engine has always pinked a bit under load, but more recently after another few thousand miles its doing at the slightest incline. I have covered the usual, higher octane fuel and retarded the timing but no real improvement this time. My questions is - will worn valve guides enhance the noise when driving or allow the engine to pink more in these circumstances? Cheers
  2. Hi Bought a re con diff for £300 from a well known SE London Triumph Spares supplier. Its been on the car about a year and done less than 3000 miles and was regularly checked for oil. However on attempting to take the car on a week away, a metallic noise appeared from the rear and I was towed home. The noise, metal chipping against metal, appears to be worse when driving at 5 MPH when cornering..... I already know the supplier is going to tell me to do one when I inform him of its early demise, so my questions are; Can these be stripped and rebuilt at home by someone remotely competent? Has anyone experienced a very early death of a recon diff? If I am going to have to start again, buying parts, or get it re done again, where can I go where they are going to do the job properly? I am based in the SE of the country Any help appreciated
