  1. I got 195/65 Toyo cf1s on my 5.5 inch rims, made a big difference to the car both in handling and looks. Cheers Doug
  2. Great bit of info thanks!! Thats really what i needed.... I can check the pinion out as well. Many thanks for your help and the photo. Rgds Doug
  3. The rubber u/j at the top end of the engine bay is ok nice and tight. The bottom u/j is also nice and tight, it's the input shaft on the rack that has the rotational play. It's the pinion, item 30 on the drawings in the mss catalogue. I am wondering if the plunger/spring is not shimmed correctly... Can these be re shimmed to adjust the rack to pinion? Thanks. Rgds Doug
  4. Yes sorry its not side to side i.e. column bushes. Track rods fine, and rack to chassis etc... to describe better, if i put my hand around the lower universal joint that connects to the rack I can rock it from side to side (circumference), would estimate around 5 degrees left to right, I would say it will fail the MOT. When driving I can feel it in the rack. Also forgot to say it was a recon rack, so could be a duff one??
  5. Hello, my steering rack is about 18 months old and has developed some play on the steering wheel. The rack is fine at both wheels and there is no movement/play, but the input shaft (steering column) rocks from side to side... to the point that I can feel it driving and I think will be an MOT fail. Can these be re-adjusted or shimmed, or is one of the internal bushes going? can anyone advise before I opt for a another new one!! Cheers Doug
  6. I notice when re-assebling the verticle link into a new trunnion there was some sideways movement... not sloppy just you can move the link a couple of mm's left right/back and forth. There is no verticle movement when assembled, none at all its firm/solid as you would expect and good for the MOT. I checked the thread in the verticle link and this seems fine, the thread is flat top and no signs of wear. is this the norm?
  7. Thanks for the replies... Sounds like a plan!
  8. Starter definitely sticks... Stops, then turn the by hand and it spins a bit and jams again. It's still very new... Any repairers in essex?
  9. Just went to run the old girl and was cranking to get oil pressure (not to long)... And it just stuck. Solenoid clicks and engine turns fine. It's just out of guarantee!! Still nicely painted. Anyone had this before and I can repair it... Or is it off to a repair shop? Did the check from battery direct to motor bypassing solenoid but it didn't spin? Cheers Doug

    Carb balancer

Hello, I'm looking for a new carb balancer for su carbs does anyone use a synchrometer? Does it work ok and fit... I would prefer this type. Does anyone use vacum gauges? And balance off the emission connections? Cheers Doug

    Tr6 carbs

According to my Roger Williams book it's the later "stanpart" manifold which has better sweeping ports. I have stanpart stamped on mine if you need a photo let me know. Rgds Doug

    Pheonix exhaust

After hearing Michael Helms six go down the road at the essex meet, I parted with the cash... fitted it this weekend. The sound is excellent, quiet bobbing about but when you open here up you really appreciate the six engine. I was also surprised to notice the engine was more responsive (cast manifold still in use), so very pleased!! I’ve just got some adjustments to do now on the pipe location, it seems a bit low in the tunnel so I might fit a hanger where the old one was fitted for support. The exhaust quality is excellent. Pheonix exhaust

Im contemplating buying a pheonix exhaust, deciding between a cross box or single pipe. Question is, do you need to let the insurance company know (yes old age is getting the better of me...). If it’s a cross box it looks original, although far more free flowing so probably wouldn’t need to inform insurance?... I would prefer the single pipe though...? Would welcome any views on this, regarding insurance and the system... cheers. Doug
