well turned out to be water pump same rattle as a worn timing chain

yes did change the tensioner very worn getting exactly the same noise and symptoms before I did the change , will try with out the fan belt

rattle from the front of engine at 3000 revs hot only have replaced the timming chain ideas please paul

ment to say have done a aprox o-60 test comes up around 12 .5 seconds paul

hi pete supposed to be 1.6 very original car 3 owner last one ten years /told had original engine at point of purchase but no engine number when I got it home and had a good look very quick for a 1.6

got the large crankcase breather seems fast for a 1.6 / strange engine number has been ground off ?
