Help needed. Pete has entered as our driver but when I try to purchase the navigator. I click on the navigator option it takes me to a second page then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong.

    Thanks in advance Mark

Am I right in thinking that you are trying to complete the entry separately and from two separate devices?

Could it be that if Pete has entered on his device, then Pete will also have to submit your entry as well?

Blindingly intense headlights are the bane of the night-driving sections. If you're driving behind someone and notice your dip-beam is illuminating their head and the top of their car, do us a favour and adjust your frigging lights down.

As an example I present the cover photo from the RBRR Banter facebook page. Nice photo but look at the beam spread along the hedge. Way too high for dipped.

I'm glad someone's come up with a sensible reply. 😊

Cheers Tim, I re-fitted the 123 this morning with a new rotor arm and so far all is good.

The car has got me to work anyway, I've just got to get home now. 🙄

Well, I did get home........but when I turned the engine off to open the gates to my driveway, it wouldn't bloody start again. It did this on the fuel pumps at Oakhampton as well. ☹️

I agree, but there's not much you can do about someone else's lights.

May I suggest a "Dipping" rear view mirror?     These can be flicked to tilt them, directing the full glare away from your eyes, but keeping a dimmed image in view for safety.   See: dipping rear view mirror - Google Search

    John

Yes, I do know what a dipping mirror is thanks, but Mk1 Saloons don't have them and I don't want to reduce forward visibility further by adding a second mirror.

  5. I heard quite a few grumbles on the RBRR about the brightness of some of the cars headlights. (On Triumphs, not normal road users)

I have to say after a witnessing a few blinding headlights myself I have to agree with them. Especially the light blue TR2 which seemed like it was stuck on full beam all the time!

A few stags with all four lights on at the front were pretty blinding as well.

Not pleasant when concentrating on heavy rain and pitch darkness.

Hi Steve,  Darren had problems with his 123 dizzy,  Dale Barker finally got to the bottom of it,  there is a tiny resistor fitted in the rotor arm on the 123 and  these can break down causing poor spark and erratic ignition timing.  Sounds pretty much the same,  Olaf ran like a pig,  new rotor arm sorted 👍

    Many thanks Wendy,

I have a new rotor arm, so I shall be trying that. Colin Wake was here this morning and measured the resistance on my current one and a brand new one and there is definitely a difference, so that could be the problem.

I was honestly gutted you guys didn’t make it Steve. So near and yet to far to push it….

    Have you investigated yet?

Thanks Alex, I was gutted as well mate. We had a beer & curry night lined up after the event with my team mates which obviously never happened, plus I still got the bill from the hotel as well even though I never got there. Seven RBRR's now and this is my first DNF. ☹️

Regarding the breakdown, I did have cavitating pump issues at Popham Airfield which resulted in the car refusing to start, but once we had got more air to the Lucas pump it started no problem.

However, it just completely died on the M25 without warning. I couldn't hear what the pump was doing as it was too noisy.

Further investigations at present have revealed the issue to be with the 123 distributor. A test on Monday morning showed that it was providing a very erratic, intermittent, and weak spark all at different times and to different plugs. (sometimes no spark at all on certain cylinders)

I know the 123 is supposed to be bullet proof, but I fitted this in 2013 and you know much mileage I would have done in the past 10 years. (RBRR's, 10CRS, C2C's, HCR's, Mops tours, etc)

I've currently got my spare 45D dizzy with points and condensor fitted and the car is running fine, so this will do until I consider my options.

  8. From what I've gathered so far, a lot of cars running Pi had pump issues. The list so far is:

Ian Iglis, Doug Thompson, Dave Harvey, myself, and now you as well Pete.

I'm wondering if it's the petrol that's causing these problems? (We couldn't always get E5, so had to resort to E10 in places)

The other issue is that KMI are no longer interested in refurbishing the Lucas stuff, so our options regarding repairs, replacements or upgrades are quite limited. ☹️

  9. Fantastic RBRR without a doubt. This is an event where you will hear noises from your car that you would never have heard before and probably wont hear again once you get home. (bearings running for 48 hours non stop can really play havoc on your mind, especially when you're tired! 🙂)

Many thanks to the organisers, marshalls, co-entrants and even the people (including photographers) who stepped out to support us on our travels.

Already looking to the 2025 event, especially now I have 'unfinished business' from this one.

See you at the start. 🙂

The way to get around for this is to put your foot down and get to Lands End early near the front of the pack, park up in front of the sign and get your head down while waiting for the Hotel to open. Slow coaches are penalised even though it's not a race!

Are you telling people to park up in front of the sign and go to sleep? Thus spoiling the chance for other people to get a decent pic?

    Radders,

Problem is that we ordered the same amount per size as last time, and sadly, without being too rude, people entered seem to be bigger.

We are trying to sort this out.

With the RBRR, we have always made them firstly available at the Drivers Meeting, then at the start. This has been the same since I took over in 2004. My way of thinking is that Tina and Andy do a stand up job, so why should I interfere, let them do the job. Its very difficult to get the size proportions correct, we hope to rectify asap.

    Tim

    Thanks for the reply Tim,

I totally agree that Tina and Andy do a great job and wasn't criticising  anyone, I was simply asking if there were any plans to have any more made.

Glad to see it's being addressed. Thanks.
