I have Just watched the first ten minuets and its brilliant. As I was parked opposite you in the car park I am glad you didn't catch me picking my nose or worse 😁  Loved watching you chase my Vitesse and your engine noise speeded up is great. I will look forward to watching the rest this evening.

I hope that it's a compulsory part of the fees for events, so people who think this sort of thing is "PC gone mad" are forced to contribute towards solutions to the world's problems instead of ignoring/denying them. In fact go one step further and make it part of the membership fees AS WELL.

This sort of backwards thinking is what puts me off having involvement with clubs like this.

Whats the point unless the likes of China come on board anything the UK does is just sticking plasters.

However, Mercedes poor strategy allowed that to happen. Strategy and planning during a race has been their weakest area for years. Red Bull have consistently been one of the best.

But how can you plan your strategy when the race director changes the rules during the race?

Don't know if its been mentioned, I haven't read all posts. I ALWAYS use the clutch when engaging/disengaging overdrive. I do this as I once owned a Sunbeam Rapier which had a bad oil leak. .End story gearbox main shaft badly twisted on the splines which I reckon was caused by the previous owner not using the clutch( I know because he took me for a drive before I bought it ) and the shock loading was too much.

Have you ever driven an automatic? Well you don't lift off or use a clutch on one. Infact on kick down you have your foot flat to the floor, but the gear change mechanism is the same principle as OD. So you can probably guess No I don't use the clutch or lift off, as others have said the great thing about OD is you can use it while overtaking for a quick gear change, then on twisting roads 3rd gear and OD is a dream. The only reason I can see for using the clutch is if your OD or gearbox is knackered possibly due to an oil leak!

how does one handle the the 1/4" pick-up tube – to 1/4" fuel hose – transitioning to 5/16" sized line? Is there appropriate fitting? Or did Triumph clamp the 5/16" very tightly to the fuel tank?

My MK1 Vitesse has had the under body fuel line replaced with 5/16 at sometime in its past so I have 1/4 from tank 5/16 under the body, back to 1/4 into the fuel pump and 1/4 from the pump to the carbs. The previous owner had just used 1/4 fuel hose and forced it onto the 5/16 fuel pipe. When I replaced the fuel hose with ethanol proof hose I used the appropriate size hose for the pipe and brought 1/4 to 5/16 brass adaptors off Ebay to connect the 1/4 to 5/16 hose together.

The result was a fairly rapid (and fairly terminal) failure of the mainshaft tip bearing That failure is not exclusive to OD boxes but does seem more common on them. The reason being that the non-OD mainshaft has two proper bearings to keep it aligned, where the OD one has only one - the front end sits in the weak tip bearing,

One of the issues I was told by a gearbox repairer is the D type overdrive uses a spring to return the pump plunger and this puts a constant pressure on one side of the mainshaft causing uneven wear on the small tip bearing. This was resolved on the J type by using a ring to return the pump plunger therefor putting pressure although alternating on both sides of the mainshaft. But unless you use your classic as a daily driver the mileages most of us do in our classics I wouldn't worry about it.

  7. Hi Jason.

I can tell its engaged by the engine revs and the position of the leaver or switch if it on the gear stick unless its dark. But then just move the leaver and you will soon find out. I can't see a point of a light on the dash but its your car and if that's what you want to do then go for it.

O/D is great on winding roads as you can keep the power on while changing though there are some that say you shouldn't do this. I have a great blast up Hartside pass this year mainly leaving the car in 3rd and using the O/D.

Thanks for the recommendation Rutty! Barricade looks to be a good product. Did you fit the 6.3mm on 1/4" pipe? Tight fit, or clamp? Im planning to mushroom the ends of the steel fuel pipe.

By the way, love the additional spotlights on your car – looks superb! Do you have any photos online, would love to see it.

I fitted what TSSC said was the correct hose for 1/4 pipe at the tank and front end. I also have 5/16 under the car and they supplied the correct hose for this as well. Not sure what the mm size is and its to cold to go and investigate. I always use clamps I wouldn't trust a push fit on it own.

Thanks for the comment re my Vitesse. The spot lights are made by Ring, I used to have them  on my first car a Vauxhall Viva and then later on my Austin Agro in the 80s. They then spent 30 years in a box in a barn till I found them again and fitted them on the Vitesse.  There are photos on the CT gallery.

    Cheers

Have you tried (or even possible) to change font size is settings? Somebody had that issue on a laptop, after a few things I discovered it was font size causing the issue, change to "normal" and fixed. Just an idea... (and we are an apple free household, so can't expt )

I did have the same problem on my laptop in the spring of this year and I found opening the link in a new tab solved the problem. Then one day it started working properly and has been fine ever since.

As for the Scrapman using Apple products😵 I thought twin 8" floppy CPM based systems was more your style.😉

  10. Does the mailing company send out all the club magazines at the same time or is it just crap post in my area. A fellow CT member who lives 45 minuets from me received his on Wednesday but the post has delivered today Friday and I still have no magazine.

On this years Coast to Coast event we averaged 33mpg in our Stag over the 870 miles. Obviously the Mpg was much better on the M56, M60, M62 sections getting from Cheshire to the start at Flamborough Head and then back home again than what we got on the roads over the Yorkshire Moors and Cumbrian Fells.

Based on that route mix I am hoping for 35mpg overall on the RBRR.

    Bruce

Managed 37mpg in the Vitesse on the C2C pushing it fairly hard most of the time though the trip up the A1 to the start and back to Cambridgeshire was at a more steady 65-70 MPH.

Interestingly on the last RBRR the 2500 TC only came in 1 MPG lower than a couple of 2000's I compared it with. 28 and 29 mpg from memory. The thought was the 2000 had to be pushed harder than the 2500 especially on the hills.

At the end of the day its not about MPG its about SPG. ( Smiles Per Gallon)

As I understand it: If you get a fail, then you must fix it and get a pass before you can use it on the road. However, if you have an mot and it expires then you just continue using it.

But do you have to fix it? What is to stop someone MOT exempting the car after the fail and continuing to use it? Yes It would not be road legal but ANPR would see it as having an MOT, only if the car was stopped on in an incident would it show up as having defects.

For the record I still put my cars in for an MOT and would fix any defects found before continuing to use them.

  13. I don't know how many miles the engine has done but there is no top or bottom end noises that I can hear so it would suggest its not excessive.  It has been  suggested it could be sticky rings due to lack of use over the last 10 years and I was told to put some diesel in the bores to see if it releases them.  I will give that a try once I have done the compression tests.

    Thanks for you comments

  14. Thanks for you comments its as I thought. I am picking a compression tester up on Monday so there is not a lot I can do till then. Final question its a Mk1 2.5 Pi on SU's I know I can take the head off in situ but can I drop the sump and remove the pistons or is it the block out job.

    Thanks
