  1. I suspected steering rack and last night convinced myself it is definitely the new rack. I dropped both track rod ends off and both wheels swung free with no effort.i then turned steering wheel and it was still stiff so loosened off the new rack and still the same. I'll take the rack off altogether and try the steering column on its own to prove once and for all. I'm going to put old rack back on even though there's a little bit of play and see what happens.
  2. Ditto, mines the same until I tighten everything up and lower the car back down.
  3. Got a problem with my steering, I've changed my steering rack, new track rod ends, new upper bush, new nylon washer, all greased up, four new tyres and had tracking done, plus oiled my trunnions and my steering is still stiff. any ideas?
  4. I have just changed my tyres to Yoko's but prior I had Goodyear with white writing and I liked the look after all that's what I had in the  late 70's with Goodyear Grand Prix S
  5. My engine number is      Rtc2459r210712 does this seem right?
  6. I'm no expert but When I replaced my carbs my car would not run right and it turned out to be the needles. The symptoms were poor idling and.lack of power. New needles did the trick, bought the carbs from Andrew Turner and he sent me some different needles,
  7. First photos I've seen and I think it looks awesome , can't wait to see it in the flesh Ian. Jango, when yours is finished will you paint it with some rainbow metalic fleck paint, you know it makes sense...you like retro....
  8. I believe there's a GT6 belonging to Ian Cottam almost ready for the road with a 300hp Volvo S40 under the bonnet . Pictures are on "Yorkshire Triumph" website. http://www.yorkshiretriumphs.co.uk/2013/04/gt6-racer-for-track-road/
  9. Try mx5 seats, easy to fit.lucky for me I'm short but if you grind the locating pin off the runners they will lower.
  10. Thanks everyone for your comments, both good and bad. Gym.....don't think so, the steering is not stiff just extremely heavy, got alleycats on with 175 tyres but it was the same with standard wheels. Trunnions oiled regularly and steering rack greased, maybe try a GT6 rack.
  11. Has anyone tried to fit electric power steering to a Spitfire? Maybe off a Corsa, sleeve both ends to fit steering rack and keep original steering wheel....
