I am confused by the question. If it is standard Herald Front suspension then it can be removed as a unit ie. shock absorber and coil spring as one unit. getting the spring and shock absorber apart then requires a coil spring compressor. See Steve p's comment!

The fan controller for my Revotec is fitted into the bottom radiator hose. I had to cut a 1" section of hose out of the middle to fit it, but it's fine so far...

It,s looking beautiful.

As far as I know the only difference is the amps output. How many do you need? Mine gives 36 amps. I think it's a 17 Acr, but I'm not sure. Cheers, Dave.

My manual puts it at the rear. Cheers, Dave. Ps. Throw it away and get a sliding spline type from Canley Classics or DaveMac props!

If your thermostat hasn't got a bleed hole in it then drill 1/8th inch hole in the outer flange of the stat. Solves the problem of airlocking under the stat. Cheers, Dave.

which switch? Main switch on panel or stalk switch on steering column?

Looks like someone must have swopped over the back casing of the diff to keep the 6 stud fixing. It would have been much easier to do than change the gears on the original unit!
I didnt understand your comment about being fine once she's on the move as my Vitesse with original diff could almost do without 1st gear and Im thinking of going to a 3.63 ratio (especially as there's no OD).
Cheers Graham
You can set off in any gear on level ground in a Viteesse! Top is interesting but possible...I've done it, but what I mean't was that a Vitesse is very high geared in first ( 40 mph at 6000rpm) so she's a bit slow off the line for the 0 to 60 sprint, but she goes well once rolling! The close gear ratios are great for overtaking. Cheers, Dave. -
Thanks for all the comments. Yes it has overdrive. No it is not a 4 stud casing, it is 6 stud, as it should be, probably from an early mk iv spit before they went to swing spring ( I have swing spring in my 13/60 and it's a lot better than swing axle. It was an easy conversion to do, but fit the bigger anti roll bar!) From my previous ownership of Mk2 vitesses ( this is my third), the standard 3.89 diff is fine...once she's rolling. Once on the move the gear ratios are great and overdrive is the icing on the cake. Cheers, Dave.

Thanks, Richard. Having now looked at parts catalogues they seem to use the same bearings, oil seals etc., so I think you are correct. Thanks, Dave.

Hi people. The diff in my Vitesse Mk2 is not an HC prefix, but is an FH prefix, which I believe is a 3.89 ratio from a Spitfire IV. Is the diff the same as a Vitesse diff, is it strong enough to cope with the extra torque, or should I consider replacing it? Thanks for any info/ advice. Cheers, Dave.

Evening all. Can anyone tell me the thread size for the drain tap on a Vitesse Mk2 radiator? Cheers, Dave.

My alloy mounts moved under (extreme) pressure. Scrapped them and now use poly bushes in standard mounts. No problem!

GK 13/60 engine has small diameter crankshaft/flywheel bolts. Mine has anyway.. Eng no is GK180HE, so late 13/60, but early GK.Covered here
Sorry , link no longer available
probably others as well.
Was your 1300 a large crank or small crank one? (Roughly speaking MkIV Spit "FH" = large crank, Mk3 Spit "FD" = small crank, Herald 13/60 GE = small crank & GK = large crank, DG & DH Dolomite/Toledo + large crank) I'm curious becuase I was uunder the impression that the large crank 1300s had the same flywheel bolt sizes at the 1500 but others disagree.....
Cheers
Nick

I've found that a disadvantage is that the alloy covers do not have a spash shield inside over the breather pipe. Original steel ones do, so only vapour comes out of the breather pipe, not neat oil! I've gone back to steel but I admit I'm biased as I prefer the look of the original steel cover, when repainted.

Put a couple of wide flange pop rivets in the holes to disguise the damage.

Are you using Optronic or Magnetronic sytem? Lumenition recommend a different coil for each system. Have a look at the TSSC shop. They sell all of the stuff you want. Cheers, Dave.

I have one on my 13/60. Got it from Wins International about a year ago. No problems so far. It was in stock and arrived promptly. Cheers, Dave. Ps. It also means that Revotec's electric fan kit for the Spitfire fits my Herald perfectly!

There's a certain Fuzz Townshend of Westgate Classics Ltd...Based near Coventry. If you've never heard of him... Oh well.

is this the same for rotoflex hubs?
No. You grease rotoflex hubs on assembly or bearing change. Cheers, Dave. -

...Good advice, Pete. You could always put some 'Slick 50' in, Dave - or an engine 'molyslip' treatment to offset any wear at start-up. I've done 23k mileage in my Herald & religiously wait a few seconds for the oil-light to go out to stop/reduce any 'death rattle'!!
Ditto. -
Try fitting an uprated oil pressure relief valve spring ( obtainable from Rimmer ). Cheap and easy and can make a difference.

Looking at your video I think that , as you can move the steering wheel easily fore and aft, that either the wheel is loose on its splines, or you have not fitted or tightened correctly, the sliding clamp at the base of the column inside the car.

Uniroyal on my 13/60 (165/80 x 13). They are good, in my opinion. Cheers, Dave.
