Is there a strong anti-chunnel feel? Not used it for years, but I believe it can be pretty cost effective with Tesco vouchers ;)

I like the chunnel for speed, but the ferry does offer a longer rest ! - personally I'd like to travel over in a group, as a whole part of the 10CR is the socialising - we used the chunnel in 2013 as work commitments meant we had to travel down late, with no chance of an overnight stay in France

  2. It sounds like someone has decked the block to get the pistons to protrude into the headgasket area - possibly to increase the compression ratio, as its has low compression pistons. This is quite a common mod on the 6 pot engine, although not often done on the stag

it would be worth measuring the compressed thickness of the old headgaskets - normally about 40thou if I remember. If it is this, there will still be adequate piston to head clearance - machining the pistons to deck height will mean they need rebalancing as well. Presumably there is no evidence of "witness marks" on the piston crowns where they have hit the head. if so leave well alone, maybe as already suggested fitting a "thick" headgasted to the one head.

I'd certainly check combustion chamber volumes between the 2 heads incase they have been altered, as someone seems to have taken the trouble to deck the block. if the chambers are uneaven it maybe that the reduced height head will not require the thicker gasket.

You can always redrill the camshaft sprocket slots to correct the timing on the head that is machined down rather than using the thicker gasket to correct the timing,

Quick lets invent a fast repair diff kit.... ;)

and a fast change wheel bearing set and stub axle .....   ;)

and replacement alternator wiring kit .. :)

and BEFORE you say it Dolomite gear box oil leak stopper, quick change water pump and jackshaft etc etc etc  :B

Whats the expression ? "Don't thow stones if you live in a glass house" "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"  ;D

  4. Quoted from Nick Moore
The MS3 Pro comes with a serial port and a USB port. I've tried both ways, USB and with a serial adapter, and no go, Tunerstudio can't detect a device. Something to tinker with tomorrow...

Really really silly question then, you have checked there is volts and ground at the MS ?

  5. Nick,

the brain should talk to the laptop without any sensors.

are you using an rs232 to usb adapter ?

MS seems to "like" a limited number of adapter types, and not all the generic ones.

Most places selling MS recommend a certain type - its worth buying the one suggested, or find an old laptop with a rs232 port

  7. You can still download an Entry Form for the 2013 event from the events section on the forum.

Do you think anyone will notice if 2013 is crossed out and changed to 2015 ?  ;)

I thought Mr Helm had given an indication of the route already, I remember reading something somewhere recently involving a continental start and then germany and a few other points east

One comment above has got my goat though, that being that we are behind the times. I think with the RBRR, 10CR, HCR and the Autosolo as part of our event calendar, we are in front of the game, what other old car club offers such events?

Spot on Tim, I just wish work and family commitments would let me take part in more, still there is next year .....

Constructive comments welcome too, a bit of tweaking here and there, but the RBRR is what it is, what it has been, and what it will be in years to come.

We are all adults, and should be able to care for ourselves.

The organisers cannot be responsible for late breakfasts, or accidents and bad weather that cause delays. - these in their own way are part of the RBRR, and its how the crews overcome them, and deal with them that make the event what it is.

The RBRR is meant to be a challenge, if it was too easy what would be the point ?

  9. Does the plug lead on 3 fire the timing strobe at tick over, if the strobe trigger lead is connected to it ? - I know it will indicate on the pulley at some distance from the no 1 firing mark, but this may be a clue

Not sure if the picture is from a mk1 saloon but it's just to show you the bit I'm after. My one has rotted where the big round mount goes.
