  1. Those moden fixes are the equivalent of us going, "get your feeler gauges out and...". 

     

    Don't forget, this is also the first winter with E10 and/or its winter blend.

     

    If it's running correctly during use I'd just keep an eye on plugs etc to make sure it's happy. Then when the weather gets more 'normal I'd check the settings of the choke and fueling. At least your fingers won't fall off from the cold.

     

    As an example. Mine is obviously all ECU controlled. Part of that involves arranging the cold start settings. I get one go a day early in the morning for a few weeks a year to do that properly and Id have to do it before going to work. Bollocks to that. I'm OK with it coughing and needing to be started twice when it's cold. 🤷‍♂️

  2. Or running rich on choke before it's warm enough to burn the extra fuel.

     

    If you're using it in this weather I'd not worry about it being perfect when cold as long as it setties down. Get it perfect now and you'll have to fiddle again in the summer.

  3. They had time earlier in the rece between discussing the tyres needing replacing if there was a safety car and the safety car.

     

    If they pitted before that then they would have still been in front with better boots than they had, but still not as good as Verstappen. Hamilton could have coped.

     

    Mercedes planted the bulb, the race director watered and nurtured it before pruning the tulip and putting it on display.

     

    Mercedes always lean to a cautious strategy thanks to having Hamilton who is capable of making up for it. It's caught them out before. In this case though, it was Masi who caught them out and not a rival team.

     

    I'm not saying it's not right or correct. The result was ultimately decided by one person sitting in a comfortable chair in an office. What I'm pointing out is that Mercedes haven't learnt from the past and when Hamilton goes or one or more rivals improve by just a small amount, they're going to struggle.

    However, Mercedes poor strategy allowed that to happen. Strategy and planning during a race has been their weakest area for years. Red Bull have consistently been one of the best.

    In full view of a much larger and fresh set of viewers they let a car with brand new tyres sit side-by-side with one with worn out tyres. Where is the excitement in everyone knowing the result has been manipulated before the safety car leaves track? It's backfired massively. 

     

    Sadly, the race director ultimately has final say in everything so any appeal can technically be thrown out.

     

    I'm almost done with F1 as a result.

    Hopefully things have changed, did you question it with Floflex by any chance?

    One reason I like Superflex is that they use different compounds in a car set. Other companies don't. It's possible their compound is correct for your Alfa but not others. 

     

    My Acclaim is still running original bushes all round. 

  7. Superflex are the best and most expensive.

    Polybush are next.

    I'd not trust rubber.

     

    I used to have blue Polybush and when they wore out I replaced with red. I've a few Superflex scattered around and you can see they're better when side-by-side. Any rubber ones I've used have failed quickly. Keep in mind that no bushes last forever and don't get fooled into think polyurethane ones will last forever as some will say.

  8. Alcohol and hookers are reliable favourites.

     

    Failing that, eBay. I got a huge one for £50 a few years ago. The older ones (50 years) are reliably good, but will require fettling.

  9. I'm happy with my Gaz on the Herald. Has anyone swapped new Gaz and Koni over on the same car in order to compare apples to apples?

     

    Mine replaced standard dampers - second hand Gaz on rear, new up front. The front ones replaced brand new dampers which lasted three laps at Goodwood before they started to leak.

    I almost agree, but only from personal experience as well.

     

    AFR gauges are only useful for initial tuning and then trouble shooting afterwards. I've kept mine in the car and just before the RBRR it allowed me to trace and prove a faulty fuel pressure regulator. On each RBRR I normally use the trip from the start to the Jedburgh garage to tweak fuel tables. So they're worth while if you can change parameters on the fly - if you can plug a laptop in and make instant changes.

     

    On a car with carbs, use your feet, ears and bum to tune the car. Ignoring timing settings. If it's holding back slightly, it's probably too rich. If it's hesitating then it's too lean. Common sense really, but I've been fortunate to have and observe the gauge and make a change straight away to fix it.

     

    Oh, and most definitely worth saying. Trying to find the magical sweet spot for the exact situation your in at that specific moment will almost certainly bugger everything else up!
