  1. Having just popped into Sainsburys for a top (of wine) I wish I filled the van up to the brim yesterday now. I only put in £60 thinking I'd not need more than half a tank...They've run out of diesel and the queue for petrol is rather long, with sections of the car park closed to help manage them.

I think the Herald has some in it. I probably should check.

  2. I'd imagine that most of our stops will be OK due to the nature of them bring busy plus our advanced warning. Rather than being able to order fuel to be delivered within 24 hours BP are currently asking stations to order day in advance.

The only place I'm worried about is Wick Tesco. It's out of the way and out of holiday season.

  3. Keep in mind I'm not using a Triumph engine.

    Tools;

Small selection of imperial and metric spanners

Small selection of imperial and metric through-sockets

    7mm, 8mm and 10mm screwdrivers

Small selection of Philips and slotted screwdrivers (some hammer through)

    Torch

    Knife

    Pliers

    Sidecutters

    Pump pliers

    Mole grips

24" breaker for wheel nuts and 21mm socket

    12v air compressor

    Puncture plug kit

    Syringe and pipe

    Hammer

    Wood

    Scissor jack

    High-vis coat

    Spares;

Spark plugs NGK BKR7E - to be used at next service if not needed

10/60w oil - whatever was left over from the last service

Brake fluid - DOT 5.1, whatever is left in the bottle right now

EP90 - small amount of what is left from last service

    Tyre weld

    Rain-X

    Window cleaner

Plain water - for coolant top-up and washer fluid

    Fan belt

    Chocolate block

Various short bits of electrical cable and bowden cable

    Bulbs

    Fuses - spade

Front wheel bearings - just in case and they take up no room

    Few clips, hoses and clamps.

  4. We've got a thread for which spares people will be carrying, so I thought it wise for one on what not to carry - to reduce confusion. This is also a reminder of what was stated at the drivers meeting.

This will be my 7th entry and on my first I carried two spare wheels, brakes pads, everything!

Don't carry what you aren't willing to repair.

Don't carry what you aren't capable of repairing.

Don't carry anything unless you also include the additional items to facilitate that repair.

As an example,  my last run (2018) resulted in failure due to a rear UJ. It took me two days to replace that UJ at home with the use of a large vice. So I know that's not a repair I will do at the side of the road, but others might.

To get around that, I have seen others carry entire rear assemblies on the event which is a great idea as it means you're covered for rear brake failure as well as UJ and bearing. But not all of those cars carry both sides,   axel stands, brake fluid, the tools to adjust and set the handbrake and brakes. Pretty soon in a small chassis car you're running out of space for the entrants and you may as well tow a donor car with you.

So don't carry thermostats, pumps, etc unless you have hose clamps, gaskets, sealants and clips. Think about how YOU would repair that at the side of the road and if you can't or won't do it, don't carry it. And if you're worried about an item now, replace it this week and test it at the weekend.

  5. What's everyone packing to feed Monday's RBRR belly?

Not fully made my mind up yet, but I'm thinking lots of jerky, peperami, loads of water, electrolyte tablets and chocolate. I might even be naughty and pack some fruit.

I don't tend to eat a lot on the event, but like to pack too much. It'll just get eaten later at work.

To ease tiredness, I do strongly advise plenty of plain water and some electrolyte tablets or Dioralyte sachets. It works better than energy drinks and doesn't prevent rest. Percy Pigs or jelly beans are also favorites on endurance events to keep energy levels up.

I’ve been struggling to set up the rebushed carbs, really difficult to get them to run consistently so I checked the fuel pump just in case there were any issues there and it promptly fell to pieces!!! I suppose it’s lucky it happened now and not on the run and with a bit of luck when the new huco one arrives Tuesday I’ll be able to get the carbs dialed in ready for the drivers meet🤞🏻

Do you need someone to stand behind you and help? I can buy a cigar.

  7. I think it's pretty clear. Door open at 10:30 which means at that moment you can walk in, get your pack, take a seat and say hello to people.

Tim said the expectation is that an hour later the meeting will start.

If people want to waste time, turn up late or extend that time then it starts later than the expectation.
