    Hood folding

Hi.  I have replaced the hood on my Vitesse with a mohair one.  However when i fold it down I cannot get it to fold completely flat as the other on did.  Has anyone else encountered this problem with mohair?  I suspect this is due to the material being thicker?

    Panel cutting

Hi I have used a Dremel but its only useful for very, very small hard to reach areas.  The cutters don't last more than a few cuts. For all other areas I used a 4" angle grinder.  An 18v battery one I find is a little slower rpm and easier to control in confined spaces. Steve
  4. Hi I made a journey up to my lockup and looked at the two Heralds and both have the pipe routed around the rear crossmember.  One is a ’61 (MK1 Chassis) and one a ’63.  I don’t know though if this is the original brake pipe on either whereas the Vitesse is original. Can anyone advise where the pipe was routed on the Herald? Steve
  5. Hi. I am replacing the brake pipes on my Mk2 Vitesse. The rear pipe which goes from the union on the left of the chassis is routed up around the body above the differential back down to connect to the right hand hose.  Has anyone replaced this with a pipe so that it avoids the prop and handbrake cable but not up and over the differential?  As in the photo shown? The only reason I can see for this is that should the rear propshaft joint fail then it ‘may’ sever the pipe….but would cause a lot more damage too! I don't have easy access to my other cars so not sure if the Herald is different.  It is just the rotoflex cars? Steve
  6. Maybe its 'cos the glass is not supported all the way round like most cars are and this can cause more stress ?

  8. Pinman and Jordan T  Thanks for that suggestion.  However when turning slowly with the normal batter (which is a bit tired) is engaged correctly.  As soon as I put on the jump leads from the other car the started went much faster and that is when the problem started.  It seems when there is too much speed it will not engage with the starter ring.  I would suspect it spins up too fast and the spring gear is maybe gummed up and it perhaps too slow to respond?
  9. I fitted a new starter motor (reconditioned) to the Herald and all was well.  Trying to start the other day it turns but fails to engage about 50% of the time.  I suspect the geag had rusted slightly during the time its been fitted...I cant even remember where I bought the motor. Take it out clean with petrol, dry it out and use graphite seems to be the fix although it looked OK and lubricated by the reconditioner when I fitted it.  Is there any specific area on the mechanism  to ensure they are fully lubricated?

    Door glass channels

Whilst refurbishind the door the rear door channel has lost most of the 'fur'.  I have removed it from the door cut another strip, drilled the holes in the right place with the intension of using pop rivets to fasten the brackets. However they stick out too farand the glass edge catches causing it to stick when going down.  I trued to file the heads down but they still carch in the glass. Are there special rivets/fixing supposed to be used for this.

  12. My 1200 Herald had new carpets fitted before I bought it. The carpets are black and feature inbuilt sound deadening material.   Anyone any idea who sells these?  Most sets seem to have seperate underfelt.... S
  13. Hi I need a couple of front wings for my Vitesse hope to get them from TDF. I have heard that the Vitesse wing is a modified version of the 13/60 wing and the Vitesse wings are £13 more. I have heard talk of Vitesse wings not really fitting correctly and having to be beaten/modified so would it be better to go for 13/60 wings and make them fit?  Also does the wing come with the 'seam' at the rear (where it joind the bulkhead or would I need to salvage from the 'old' one? Now onto floor panels.  I have seen front floor panels that are 'total' replacements.  The bottom only is rusted on the drivers side only (the rest of the metal on the uprights is sound...caused by a wet carpet) and passenger side still has the original paint.  Is they anything available for this type of repair?
