  1. Bump! Sorry to pester but does anyone have any comments on my question? Thanks Dave
  2. Hi all I am busy cleaning up my replacement chassis frame for my 13/60 resto so whilst spending hours behind a mask, goggles, ear muffs etc I have been thinking about running gear.  8) I really like the idea of a high ratio steering rack as my daily drive has a high ratio rack and I love flicking the wrist to corner. My question is, and I know this will be difficult to translate over a forum, how heavy is it? I will be fitting a standard Vitesse steering wheel so not going for a leather covered shirt button affair. I also fancy solid rack mounts for steering feel but will this give me white knuckles on the Sunday blast?  ;) The second question is the swing spring. I really fancy Canley's spring kit. How low will it sit? I don't want to scrape the frame on speed bumps etc but would like it a bit lower than standard. Would it be best to fit adjustable height front spring/dampers to level the car? Thanks for reading my ramblings. Dave  :)
  3. Thanks Bill for sharing your very impressive knowledge.  :)
  4. Thanks for the info Bill. I have attached some pictures of the valance. It had a Triumph tag attached to it but does it look like a genuine item to you? I won't hold you to it!  ;)
  5. Hi All I have taken delivery today of a NOS Herald valance. It had the part number of 806600 on the item. It had a Triumph invoice tag attached with string and a label that, although very faded, showed evidence of Triumph origins. However I checked the part number an saw it was for a Vitesse, not a 13/60 Herald. It also has little brackets in the corners where the rubber strip chrome finishers go. My question is will this fit a 13/60? I can not check my car easily without moving my Capri, which shares the garage. Any advise gratefully accepted!  :) Thanks Dave
  6. I used this stuff on my tank. http://www.rust.co.uk/products/product/413124/0001-tank-kleen/ The muck that came out was amazing! The car hadn't been on the road since 1988 so I can only assume it was the same fuel. I then let it dry out. The biggest problem I had was getting all the rust out due to lip on the fuel sender hole/baffles etc. Once it dried I got a magnetic pick up tool and run it up and down the inside of the tank through all holes picking up the flakes of rust. Once nothing was left to rattle around I sealed it with this. http://www.rust.co.uk/products/product/405062/0002-slosh-ethanol-proof-petrol-tank-seal/ Any small debris left is sealed in. Worked a treat! There are other systems about which I am sure are just as good as what I used. I just happened to use this one.  ;)

    Seats for Herald

Well, in for a penny, in for a pound! I have bought a set in black leather. The drivers side bolster needs a bit of work to make perfect but a lot cheaper than a re trim kit for the original seats.

    Seats for Herald

Thanks for all your help. Guess I am going down the local scrappy this weekend and trawling E Bay.  :)

    Seats for Herald

My car is a saloon so should be ok. Love your seat Nick. The blue leather sets off the paint a treat! At present mine would need brown inserts with holes to match my car.........  :) Must admit, the price of a good set of MGF seats is cheaper than a retrim kit. Useful post Encom. Thanks for the info. Thanks for the replies.  :)

    Seats for Herald

Hi All I have been thinking about front seats for my Herald 13/60 today whilst taking out the glass and removing the roof, as you do. I like the MGF seats as they look 'period' but not so sure on the MX5 option. However I really do like the look of the original MK2 Vitesse seats. I know this is subjective but do people find them comfortable over long distances? I am starting to get a bit creakier as the years roll by!  ;) Also, my Herald seats are shot! Can the frames be trimmed with the Vitesse kits from Rimmer or Newton? Thanks for any info Dave

    Roof repair

Hi All I have been working on the Herald today stripping etc. (The car, not me..... what a thought!   ;)) The front edge of the roof has a fair bit of rust and I am unsure on the best way to repair. The actual roof appears solid it is the folded over bit that is attached to the side gutters that is the problem. Also, I am fairly new to forum posting. Is there a guide on here on how to add more pictures? The attach file option is rather restrictive. Cheers in advance. Dave
  12. Thanks Bill. I will be doing a though survey this weekend so should know then. Dave
  13. Thanks for your replies. The Type 14's sound good. The car is here now so have a very long week ahead before I can get stuck in at the weekend. Is there any way of knowing if I have the early uprights? The car is a real 'bitsa' having been run when Heralds were 2 a penny in the scrapyard. It has difference colour bonnet, bootlid, valance, odd brakes, Triumph 1300 TC engine.... That is what I know so far.
  14. Hi All I was preparing the Herald for moving to my garage yesterday. In fact it is on a low loader on the M20 as I type!!  :) The brakes were seized solid so I removed the front calipers. I noticed on the back a number that was something like 12 SPD or similar. Does this mean it has Type 12 calipers? I was under the impression it would have type 14's. The car is a 1970 13/60. Also, can you tell me how easy/difficult it is to fit Vitesse Type 16 calipers and would it be worth the agro? Thanks for your help. Dave
  15. Hi Gordon The engine has a single carb manifold attached and one in the boot. I haven't compared the two. The pain of the car being at the folks 100 miles away.  :( Looks like I am on to a bit of a winner! Thanks for the reply and info, Dave
