Currently busy on another car. OD was slow and then stopped working years ago... Think we found the part of the problem. OD oil pump cam worn away 😮 We now got it to a company to check/rebuild the unit. Gearbox itself needs a good flush out to. But.. does anyone know if the oil way in the layshaft runs all the way through the shaft on a 6 ? There is a small plate in the bellhousing. I would like to clean out the layshaft due to swarf...

That clamp is machine riveted to the leaf. I seen the same on an old spring of mine.

Yesterday done a littke trip. 200miles to the British Car Club Day / Parts day. A special Dolomite 1800... and on the same stand... something really special ! a Triumph Pony gearbox ! They are planning to remake the 1300 fwd(4x4) rally car.

And with help of a friend.. its on ! The more i look around the hardtop, the more rust i find 😅 A job for next summer.
-
Not much done to Fox really. But do need to get her ready for the winter. Bonnet needs some more rust protection, 88 degrees thermostat fitted etc But.. hardtop, not been on for 3 years (since the welding). Had a look at some rust on the hardtop ... Will patch it up for now, next summer will fix it for good.

Yesterday spend the whole day on that Spitfire. Now its back on the road. Owner says it drives a lot better now, i did testdrive it to 🙃 The old release bearing was looking very 'blue'. Rebuild the release arm with all new bits, full clutch kit and thermostat housing leak fixed. But the gearbox knocks when driving into reverse. Could not see anything wrong with the gear, so must be the syncro hub or.. laygear. For now leaving it as is.

Could not find an uprated clutch arm pin for the Spitfire. My uncle had a broken weed cutter shaft laying about.. So some welding and my uncle turned on his Myford Super 7 and made this to fit.

Yesterday had a call.. A friend from a friend broke down 100meter from his home. cutch pedal stuck, could not pressed in at all. I arrived to have a look, first thing i looked at.. clutch release arm pin. It was gone ! Interior out, tunnel out.. Then spotted this ! Took the gearbox out and cleaned everything up. Release arm had a hit.. but can be re-used. The release bearing was stuck .. Clutch worn down a lot. Next week it will be driving again for sure, now waiting on parts.

I had a quick look. The failed bearing had BA168z stamped on it. Nothing to be found quality wise.. 😞
-
I do wonder about something. All the bearing kits i see for sale and like how the originals where.. And now my bearing... A lot less needles !
-
Inspected the failed bearing. Big bearing all ok. Small needle bearing... Brand was IKO Japan, never heard of them.. 😅 Can you actually get SKF/Timken bearing for the rear ? 🤔

This morning technical inspection. Passed without advisory's ! 'Only' done 19.800kms/12.300miles in the past year. Then started the noise hunt... I had a really bad bearing noise anx getting louder day by day.. Now even knocking above 20mph, but they didnt spot anything at the inspection. Found play between the bearing housing and half shaft on the rear left.. Ok.. time to get the Makita from my uncle, my bastuck hub puller and pull the hub etc. The grease in the housing was full of metal shaving.. But the shaft itself, very good. Passed the finger nail test. Spare new bearings in another spare housing and fitted that all back to Fox.

Since the 100 year Triumph event i can hear a noise... A bearing noise And its getting worse 🙄 Want to look into it today and maybe start up rebuilding my spare diff up. Did have a look at the rear brakes etc and adjusted them. Also wednesday morning its yearly technical inspection time... Hopefully we pass !

I needed to this before on Spitfires. You can get them pretty easy, but takes time that i dont have 😄

A dutch friend send me a pic this morning 🙃 Nearly stopped by the police ! The Volvo was used in the first dutch film of 'Flodder'. Seems the owner of the place where the event was, has a collection of 125 Volvo's !

Something i bought. I dont know why.. NOS back box For a dutch friend I needed to transport a spit mk3 front valance to a guy just over the border in belgium (sort of CT pony express). So met up, gave him the panel and extra info about Spitfires 😅

Fitted the rear trim etc. Then drove to 100 Years Triumph in the Netherlands. 225mile trip for Fox. Lhd Herald Estate with 1500 engine and od box. GT6 was EFI and very very nice ! It was great, couldnt see everything as i spoke to so many people i know from the dutch events.

Still loads to do.. Mostly getting rid of orange peel. And sadly 1 panel had nearly no paint on it. So needed repaint. Now waiting on some supplies.. Like a polishing machine etc. Slowly does it..

Delivered the Dolly back to its owner yesterday evening. Then got Fox out. Wanted to restart after these pics... nope.. flat battery. Jumpstart from another battery (that i just bought for a co-workers Stag) and off she went. Testdrive and fuel.. all ok, exept.. coolant dripping. into the footwell. I did have problems with some hose clamps previous testdrive. Re-checked from the heater valve to the heater.. hose clamp was shit.. Time to buy decent clamps and to get rid of the crap ones. Left Fox on my drive outside last night, so battery could charge up a bit. This morning no problemo 😄

This evening we started up Fox and drove to home to clean the inside. Neighbours came out to see to 😅
