  1. Hi im building up some gt6 hubs for my herald and im struggling with the felt hub seals.  The new ones seem far too big and the metal housings are too big to tap in without damaging.  Does anyone know of a source of better ones or a more modern seal that can be used instead?  SKF list these on their website with the triumph part number listed as a cross reference has anyone ever used these? https://www.vsm.skf.com/ca/en/products/14864 Cheers Andy
  2. Hi im planning on doing the freelander wheel stud conversion on my herald but im running steel wheels on it.  Im struggling to find wheel nuts that will work in the taper of the steel wheel.  Has anyone done this conversion and if so what nuts did you use? Cheers Andy
  3. Thanks for the advice I did get the rusty old bolts put in one piece but ive messed up and had it machined for the cv conversion before I have noticed the elongated hole! I will take it to the machine shop and see what they say. Cheere Andy
  4. Hi ive got a pair of rotoflex uprights that have excesive play where the bolt goes through does anyone know of someone who can put a sleave in? Im sure there used to be someone advertising doing it on ebay but I cant find it now. Cheers
  5. Ah right I didn't realise that I might have to go with the midget handbrake cables then.  I've also got the complete rotoflex driveshaft's, hubs and lever arm shock absorbers to get rid off if anyone wants them. Cheers Andy
  6. Looks like i will have to transfer the cable guides from the vitesse chassis to my herald one then. Cheers Andy
  7. Thanks for the advice I haven't really thought about the handbrake cable yet but I have got the whole rear end of the vitesse chassis so I have got all the brackets if anything needs swapping over.  I'm planning to do a cv conversion so the couplings fouling probably wont be a problem.. Cheers Andy
  8. Hi, I am converting my herald 13/60 to rotoflex back suspension and have bought a complete rotoflex set up from a mk2 vitesse.  However the rear spring is knackered so I was wondering if the good rear spring from my herald would fit the rotoflex system. Cheers Andy
  9. Hi, I came to fit a new vitesse mk2 exhaust system to my herald 13/60 today thinking it was the same thing but in a bigger bore (silly me :) ) but quickly found out that the front pipe is a different fitment and at a different angle.  Now im thinking of getting a tubular exhaust manifold.  The car is running a dolomite 1300 inlet manifold and a SU HIF38 carb so is there any exhaust manifolds available that will fit with the single carb inlet manifold and will the new inlet manifold fit onto the rest of the mk2 vitesse exhaust system? Cheers Andy
  10. Hi, I have just bought a new water pump for my herald 13/60.  When it came it said on the box it was for a spitfire 1500 and when I had a look at it its not the viscos coupling type but has a bigger pulley than the old one.  Im fitting a spitfire 1500 alternator conversion so will it be ok? Cheers Andy

  12. I've been doing some more work on the car recently, Got some tyres for my wheels Went for yokohama blue earths in 175/70/13 in the end Also got some panels 1x center valence, 2x 1/4 valences and 2x sills.  I got them in herald 948/vitesse spec to get rid of the white bumpers The rear tubs all been cleaned off underneath (hours with a scraper and wire wheel) and is now ready to get welded up then painted Luckily its not too bad rust wise (not as bad as the bulkhead anyway)  Its just arches, tread plates and small holes really (put some green paint on  so the holes show up better) Also the bulkheads back from being repaired (it was too much for me to do really) Solid floors  :) windscreen gutters and tread plates And ive started to prep it for paint (it just needs its mountings welding on when the body's on to make sure it will fit well) So when the bulkhead was finished and the body was cleaned off I put the body back on the chassis to make sure it all still lined up (new side rails on the chassis, luckily it did) Lastly I found a spitfire 1500 boss for my steering wheel so I can use the original horn push but only one of the holes lines up so I will have to make an adapter plate I'm after a decent running 1300 engine (just to put in the car to get it up and running so I have more time to properly build my engine for it) so if anyone has anything then let us know Cheers Andy
  13. Hi, The camshaft on my GE engine herald 13/60 is worn so  im going to replace it with a spitfire mk3 profile one.  I have been told that the spitfire profile large journal cam that canleys sell will not fit a GE 13/60 so is it possible to fit cam bearings into the block so I can run a standard mk3 spitfire cam? Cheers Andy

  15. Thanks for all the comments guys it really helps keep you motivated when your up to your eyes in triumph bits  :)  Anyway I've been making progress on Cyril As he stands now, Front suspension and engine removed,  Underseal stripped off (horrible job :o) and ready for chassis welding. I've got a pair of front outriggers, pair of side rails and a pair of cross tube ends ready to go on next weekend.  Away from the chassis I've got another roof! Mine had a (non original) webasto sunroof that was going to cost more than I payed for the car to repair and was incredibly rusty around the bottom of the back window so I picked up this nearly rust-free one for £10. Ive also started on the interior with the dashboard.  I was going to re-varnish it but its was so lovely and patinaed that I've just cleaned it.  But the switch panel veneer disintegrated as I took it to bits so I rubbed it down to bear aluminium , polished ad lacquered it.  I've also added a rather cool SAH sticker. Also I've been kindly given this radiomobile radio that's going to go in the car. The front suspension rebuilds also underway everything's been painted and polybushed and all trunnions, ball joints bearings etc have been replaced.  Now I'm just waiting for the chassis to be welded then it can all go back on. On the shock/spring front I haven't been able to find a pair of reasonably priced koni's yet so there's a pair of standard woodhead shocks going on for the time being.  However I have managed to find a pair of triumphtune 'red label' fast road front springs second-hand that I have has to touch up a bit of paint on (Hammarite smooth blues a near perfect match). New vs Old Lastly I've got my perfect wheels for Cyril.  They are late spitfire ? 5" wheels.  The seller thought they were 4.5" so I got the set for £10. P.S. if anyone's got any new or good second-hand herald bits (preferably body panels etc.) for sale in Yorkshire I would definitely be interested! Cheers Andy
  16. Wow a thread on my car! I bought Cyril (He's still called Cyril by the way) in January last year when I was 14 to restore for my first car for when I'm 17.  When I first when to look at it I made two mistakes.  I didn't look at the chassis (luckily all it needs is new side rails and front outriggers) and I felt sorry for it.  Especially when Rich told me that everyone else who had viewed the car wanted to break it for spares!  But luckily for Cyril I won the auction and this is how it arrived. I decided it needed a proper restoration so stripped it down to the bare chassis The strip down And the whole rear suspension has been rebuilt, a lowering block added, Koni shocks been put on and all the bushes have been replaced with polys. Now I've taken the bulkhead and front suspension off, the engine out and ordered the new chassis outriggers from canleys Cheers Andy
  17. Thanks guys I think I'm just going to leave the ARB standard until I get to drive the car and see what I think then.  I'm also going to leave the standard spring with a 3/4" lowering block as I don't want the car to be too low as it going to be my daily driver, has anyone tried solid steering rack mounts, are they worth getting?
  18. I think the car will have some negative camber but I will have to see when its back on its wheels it will be running 175 70 13 Uniroyal's and how involved is it to fit a swing spring is it just a matter of swapping just the spring or is there more too it? Thanks Andy
  19. Hi Im restoring a 68 herald 13/60 with a few handling upgrades (lowered 1" all round, adjustable koni shocks, polybushes and 5" gt6 wheels) and was wondering wether its worth changing the 11/16 anti roll bar currently fitted for a 7/8 one from a 1500 spitfire and what it would do to the handling. Thanks
