  1. In 3rd or 4th gear, I simply click my overdrive in when changing up the gear. But wen going down the gears, if in 3rd and I switch the overdrive off, it feels as though the car is saying "use the flipping clutch matey!!" A bit of a lurch - that's all.  So...is this the correct procedure for using the overdrive or is there a well respected technique??

    Carb Flooding

My Right Hand Side carb is flooding - petrol is pouring out of the side and into the air filter. I understand that this means that the float has got stuck.  Knowing nothing about carbs, is this a difficult job or a relative simple fix. A mechanic friend of mine said that the thing to do is to take them off and sit down at the kitchen table with newspaper and strip them and use a kit for the replacement bits. Is this necessary? Where is the best place to get a kit from? Wont they be a nightmare to tune back again? Thanks B
  3. I have recently installed MX5 (model 2.5) leather seats into my Vitesse conv.  The best thing I have ever done to it - it has completely transformed the car from one where the seats were painful after a while and which didn't sit well on the floor, to one that is sublime to sit in. I decided to go down the route of making plates for the runners to bolt to.  The plates were then bolted to the floor using the original holes as I didn't want to butcher the floor about. The seats tilt forward and are easy enough for people to get in behind without any issues. The added bonus is that they are the heated variety.  Just need to get around to putting in an alternator and a couple of switches and relays and I'll be away!!  Will be great for the winter!

    Hood repair?

I have a small tear in my Vitesse hood - it is on the corner where the silver bar goes across the hood, just above the wear window. It started small, but the constant opening and closing of the hood means that it is getting bigger. Rather then getting a complete new hood, is it possible to repair this.  I am keen for a reasonable repair rather than my default of getting some gaffer gape on it!! Thanks
  5. Cheers Ferny - You're a star. Just need to source some relays and switches (that'll look the part!!) Trip to Maplin methinks! :)
  6. Ok, So I have taken the plunge and brought myself some Mazda MX5 full leather seats.  I got to the point where the bar digging in my back is getting too much - that and the fact that the current seats seem to lean to the side and mean some jiggling when trying to close the doors! Got them on EBay and in great condition.  I know I will have to do some searching on the web for the best instructions on how to fit, but the seats I brought have the added advantage of being heated ones (from a Mazda 5 version 2.5). My initial thought was "Too much aggro to wire up", but having been out in the Vitesse in the cold in recent weeks, heated seats would certainly have the added incentive for me to use the car more! Has anyone had any experience of wiring such seats up.  I guess that I will, as a minimum, move from my current dynamo to an alternator.  Also, I don't want to have the danger of them being on a switch that I get out of the car and leave on - with my battery flattening (or worse!). All ideas and suggestions welcomed!
