  1. The fins at the front of my (TSSC) alloy cover fouled the bonnet slightly and I had to file it down Also had to glue gasket on to stop oil leaks Close your bonnet carefully the first time after fitting!
  2. Thanks Mark - must say your Vitesse looks pretty tasty! So, is the 10 spline shaft that I've got "standard" Vitesse?
  3. There are 10 splines on the input shaft, and another 1 3/4" tip, after the splines end. the gearbox number is WE24444, if that helps... Are there any differences to the speedo drive output? I'm a bit loathed to pull the seats and tunnel out yet, as hoping for another outing or two beforehand, if the weather holds out!
  4. I've just bought a complete gearbox / bell housing / overdrive assembly that was advertised as a GT6 / Vitesse unit. I've just got it home and have checked the code on the gearbox and it is "WE", which is Dolomite 1850, although the bell housing is definitely Vitesse. the overdrive is a J Type (like the one in Mark's pictures). I had hoped I would be able to simply swap this into my Vitesse (which has its original gearbox and overdrive, which I assume is D type?) - looking at this thread, I'm wondering if it is going to be quite so simple as that! Obviously it could have been a WE casing with Vitesse internals fitted, but is there any way to tell if the mainshaft that goes into the clutch is the correct one for a Vitesse (number of splines, etc.). are there any other issues that I'm going to face?
  5. It's the right way up on my iPad! Just not on the PC.....
  6. I Fitted MX5 seats to my Mk2 Vitesse convertible, after an abortive attempt with MGF seats which looked nice but wouldn't go far enough back, and I'm not that tall (5'11"). They are from Mk1 I think, with separate headrests and had been recovered. Easy access to rear as well, as they tip (MGF ones don't)
  7. My vitesse has the same 2 positions, as described above. But why anyone would be troubled by the "glare" from the dash lights escapes me!
  8. Damn, i was quite happy driving my car and using overdrive, now I can't help "analysing" what I'm doing every time I change gear!
  9. You can see that, dished or flat, it's hardly going to hinder access to the stalks. Unless you got a deep dish one and put it on backwards....
  10. I don't use the clutch putting o/d on, but do tend to when switching out at higher revs to stop "that lurching feeling", unless I've already slowed right down
  11. I think the "tapered part of the hub" you are referring to is the outer bearing shell. The only thing to do is fit a new set of bearings, including shells. I did this recently on my Vitesse - I got a local garage to press out and replace the shells in the hub, which cost not a lot, and the bearings aren't that expensive.
  12. if its the starter motor, and you can run to the cost, replace it with a high torque one - i did this on my TR4, and my Vitesse, with much better results.
  13. that's it, Andrew Turner was who I used, good service and not too expensive, but was a few years back
  14. I exchanged mine a few years back for a set of refurbished ones, can't remember the blokes name now, but I'll try and dig it out if you're still stuck. Are you sure it's a carb problem? Ie is fuel actually getting to them? And you've got a spark? Agreed if you just had them rebuilt they are the most likely candidate but if you had dirt in the line  its not the only place to suspect!
