  1. Thanks Iain , I will look that one up, Does anyone know if the adaptor bracket is still available for a mk1, I have been looking online, rimmer only do it as part of a kit, and quiller don't seem to do them, are they even necessary???
  2. Thanks Clive , very helpful, it seems a lot easier than I had imagined.....thanks Iain I hadn't looked at a particular alternator yet, is there anything you recommend ?? ( by the way, I nearly broke my iPad trying to swat that annoying little ant thing in your profile.
  3. Hi, I have decided to replace the Dynamo with an alternator on my 68 my 1 gt6( sorry all you purists). I have seen vids on line and the nuts and bolts bit us all ok, but I am confused as to what needs to be replaced with the wiring. Can anyone advise what replacement wires need run and what I need to keep to fit an alternator. Ta Pete
  4. Hi thanks Pete You were right the metal rim was still in place, the replacement I have is a nylon seal so I didn't realise the metal was part of the old seal, I thought it was part of the bell housing! I have fitted the new seal, can you confirm is this the right way up? Thanks
  5. Hi, appreciate any help, I am building my 68 gt6 and am about to reattach the gearbox to the engine, I have cleared out the old bell housing oil seal( using a blow torch to burn the bugger out) but now the new one is a problem, I can't find anywhere that tells me which way up it should go, or if it even matters, and it doesn't seem to fit in the hole in my oil seal housing??? Does it need driving into place, or do I have the wrong size, I would say that the diameter is approx 1 MM too big meaning it won't sit in the hole. Thanks Pete
  6. Hi, I am going to refurb my gt6 150 cd carbs. I have the refurb kit, just wondered if anyone had any top tips to make sure the job goes well. I am planning on taking lots of photos to Make sure it all goes back together as planned. Ta Pete
  7. Thanks, I was going to fit a new clutch and bearing. I made that mistake with a car before, refitted the engine and then had to take it out again a fortnight later to change the clutch. I won't be doing that again!!!! Any recommendations for the most reliable clutch.
  8. Hi. I have the engine out on my 67 mk1 gt6. I was looking at the clutch release bearing , I glanced at Haynes to see if it was in need of replacement and in all of their pictures it seems to show the bearing considerably further down the carrier than it is on my car. Does my bearing look as though it is in the correct place. The car didn't run when I got it so I have no idea if the clutch was working or making noise. I would appreciate your thoughts. Ta
  9. Thanks guys, that's been helpful, much appreciated.
  10. Hi, I have seen a 2.5 ltr engine on eBay, it's an MG prefix which I think is from a 69-70 saloon. My question is will it fit in my mk1 67 gt6 . Will it need anything adjusted to fit, can it take the std carbs and inlet manifold from my current engine,  will it need a different gearbox or will it just bolt in connect it up and go! Appreciate any advice. Ta Pete
  11. Anyone have any recommendations for recon engines and gearboxes. K and N seem reasonable with a gt6 mk 1 engine for £1220
  12. You have me worried, I had noticed mine had the osf wheel proud of the arch , I have measured  and I too have approx 15mm difference, I am hoping it's more just bonnet and wheel alignment as appose to a bent chassis
  13. I took the gt6 on a very short run today, about 1500yds before running out of petrol, i can hear the solenoid clicking when the stick is moved left and right but it does still go into reverse. It goes into reverse with a real fight when the do switch is up and down and when driving it made no difference to the revs when I switched the switch. I am thinking that perhaps the do is knackered, I am also concerned about how hard it is to get into reverse, not sure if I just need to get use to it or if it's the synchromesh etc. Are there any companies providing good recon gearboxes, I have see mike papworth a name being mentioned on old posts, is he still doing gearboxes? I am in Northern Ireland so a reliable person in NI would save delivery costs.
