    Chassis Paint

TOP DRAW GUYS ! What a fantastic response. Thank you all so much. Wonder if it's worth starting a blog on here. Certainly got enough pictures and would help others who follow with the same questions as I'm no expert. Then again, nobody was born a master; amateurs become experts because they did not give up on learning. Robert

    Chassis Paint

Hi Guys, I have my chassis stripped back to bear metal. What's the best way to paint the chassis either by hand or spray. Naturally, I could use something very resistant like Hammerite and brush it on, but where the chassis shows in the engine bay I'd prefer an exact paint match with the rest of the car, and Hammerite just won't be a perfect match. Primer and body paint could be sprayed on, but is it as resistant - may be not? Welcome to hear what you guys suggest or have tried with success. cheers Robert
  3. Hi Knowledge bank, I'm about to repaint my chassis shortly after having it media blasted. What paint do you guys think is the best, or am I best getting it sprayed by a pro? If I don't get it sprayed, then I'm concerned the paint will be a miss match with the tub. I'm after a good finish, so painting it on myself doesn't really appeal to me, unless you say otherwise. And how about manifold/head paint. Any I can do myself, or again, just take them in to get sprayed by a pro? many thanks in advanced. Rob
  4. Hi All, I need a MK1 Spitfire Hard top roof in good condition if anyone has one of know of one going elsewhere. cheers Robert
  5. Hi guys, Just about to restore my MK1 spitfire. Can anyone tell me what amount of money I should forecast for a total restoration of parts only. I'm keeping the engine, carbs have been already restored, apart from that everything will get replaced or restored. I've already go a price for respray so don't include that, or any labour charges. Also it's a MK1, so will I devalue it heavily if I drift too far away from its originality? For example, the original gear-box has no synchro. If the new gear box gets upgraded with synchro box which is a a non-visual better part - does that devalue it. Or is it only the visual stuff that does that, such as sticking the wrong seats in it? Be outstanding in everything you do, even if you're a farmer, be outstanding in your field. cheers Rob
  6. Hi all, Alternator needs replacing as my old Lucas one is failing. Can anyone recommend a good replacement around 40-65 amps as I'll be adding more electrical stuff to the car later-on and don't want something too low spec. I guess I need to update some of the electric gauge cables too - not sure which ones so any help appreciated. Many thanks Rob

    Carb tuning tools

Hi all, I have a MK1 spitfire, and recently had the carbs restored by a really good guy. Since then, had a mobile tuner in to set them up properly. I'd like to buy carb tuning tools to tune the carbs/balance them myself and have found these tools. The carbs are Twin SUs. Which should I go for, and are there any which I should stay clear of? :         Gunson - colour tune = £34      Carbtune Pro (vacccum) = £57      TecMate - CarbMate synchroniser = £80      TecMate - Vaccumate synchroniser = £350 First timer on this site, so go easy!  :) cheers - roba
