  1. Another oil filter choice is a  MAHLE OC21, I am using one on my GT6 MK3 Allwoods ---- Lincs/Notts area in stock £6.00                                                                     John
  2. I have recently done the same overhaul on mine. Did you dismantle the starter box and replace the gasket? Make sure the nut is really tight against the spring when you reassemble----- where the choke cable connects, I had problems with mine with petrol seeping out. Also make sure the disc is not 180 degrees out.                                                                                     Hope this helps,        John
  3. My is a '72 mk 3  with the 150 Stromberg fixed jets
  4. Hi all,   I have finally got the jet problem sorted on my GT6.  If anybody is in the Lincoln area try 'Expert Test & Tune' ,  very helpful £40 p.h. and no VAT. He does classics and moderns --- has owned a GT6.                  John.
  5. I am still struggling with my fixed jet 150's.  The balance is o.k. but the idle screws will not increase the revs from about 600.  I have tapped the jets further down from the bridge, I know they should be 1/10 down -- they were too high but not flush. It only seems to want to start and run with the needles nearly on max. richness, this should not be with all new standard needles and jets.  I have checked the new throttles and they are the correct way round and close properly.                           Any help please,   thanks  John
  6. Thanks Pete,    contacted Burlen and helpful guy quoted 100thou from the Zenith data.                                                         John
  7. Does anybody know if the fixed jets on the 150's should be fitted flush with the bridge. Is the position critical?   No mention in the manuals I have.                                        Thanks  John
  8. Yes Don that's exactly what I did do,  indoors at a table with the manuals and leaflet that came with the kit.  I spent over two days on that plus advice from Andrew Turner who supplied  the kit. I have now spent a further four days and still struggling.
  9. just carbs, engine is in first class condition,  plugs tend to be oiling rather than soot. car was running fine before,  just needed the 'o' rings replacing on the damper tubes, having to top up all the time,  decided to do the full overhaul.   I wish now I had left well alone!
  10. After my Stromberg overhaul I can now get to fire from both carbs but it just keeps dying after a few seconds. Using the choke on fast idle keeps it running a little bit longer, but if you try and increase the revs it just shudders to a stop. Also the plugs keep oiling up usually on the r.h. carb. I have no chance of getting the mixture right, altering the idle screws makes no difference. I have run out of ideas,  help please,            thanks John. Please see my earlier posts for more info.
  11. I have a mechanical pump and the floats are correct height. I overhauled the carbs because the dashpots needed the oil seals replacing so I thought I may as well do everything else.
  12. I have just fitted a full rebuild kit to my 1972 GT6 strombergs - the fixed jet ones. When it eventually fired fuel flooded out from the r.h. hole of the air filter intake, the filters are not fitted. I thought the new needle valve had stuck but checked it - it's fine. Everything on the carbs has been carefully cleaned and all the new parts fitted.                  Thanks in advance for any help.   John
  13. O.K. Thanks,  I already have the radiator valences.  J.
  14. Hi,  What are the thoughts on engine valences for GT6 Mk3. Mine does not have them, are they worth the cost?                              Thanks John
  15. Thank you both for the info, I always suspected that the position of my switch was not original. The car had a new MOT when I bought the car with a clean pass, 6 months ago. I am thinking about moving the switch to the end of the dash, just need something to fill the hole.                                                          john
