  1. Hello all! Ipad won't let allow me to upload pictures but the car is coming along very well! It is into filler work and will be ready for paint fairly soon! The engine is going to Ivor searle hopefully Friday for a full rebuild to fast road spec, Car is looking to be finished HOPEFULLY for the start of July! So watch this space... On another note, (if this breaks any rules I do apologise and admin please edit as necessary) I am in the process of starting my own restoration company in Cardiff South Wales. My business partner and myself are Very experienced with restoration and motor engineering, and we hope to build a successful business. Should anyone require any work doing (body prep and paint, mechanicals, detailing etc... Do please get in touch with me via email at ordinarycars@hotmail.com Cheers Ellis
  2. I showed the owner hundreds of colours and eventually we decided on this one! It's just takes practice gt6 ! Thanks t. Yeah the space is mega. Just more room to fill with crap mind!
  3. Hey all long time time since the last update! A lot of progress has been made i have a ton of pictures which can be seen on my photo bucket as i have waaayyy too many to upload here. So where are we now? The car is currently on a jig and is awaiting shot blasting, it was supposed to be picked up last week but they were unable to pick up as their truck broke down. i have completed a lot of welding! roof panel, rear wheel tubs, toe pans etc... Chassis has been finished and is painted and 90% built with suspension. The engine will be going off next week to be built to stage 2 fast road spec, ported and polished head, fast road cam, lightened and balanced bottom end etc... should produce a flatter stronger torque curve and make an oh so glorious noise! Here a a few pictures to keep you all busy! THE COLOUR Mitsubishi t70 (insert originality argument here) Chassis painted in stone chip, body colour, but slightly lighter. I can quite happily say 99% of the welds are like this. some aren't even being ground down haha toe pan repair Door/wing test fit.
  4. Long time since the last update! I've been busy with car but work too so not as much progress on the car as i would like! but the body is off and chassis was better than i was hoping! just a bit pitted but nothing major! except the bonnet supports. which i am replacing tomorrow haha.http://s897.photobucket.com/user/Ellis_Simin/media/WindowsPhone_20141108_001_zps21e36b2e.jpg.html shed loads of pictures have been added! have a look through at your pleasure and let me know what you think!
  5. Well. Removed the heater matrix and water hit the floor pan. And then it proceeded to pour out of the seam between the inner and outer sill haha I laughed quite a lot at that. It simply wet itself... Floor will be going in tomorrow and then I'll make a start on this sill!
  6. Okay its a little over due but heres first update. car is in mostly bits and I've replaced the drivers side inner sill and strengthener, floor is almost ready to be welded in, and the door fits an absolute dream! just got a few repairs in the area to do first and then i can fit the outer sill and wing bottom! anyway less talking more pictures!! theres just too many to upload via the uploader so heres a link -http://s897.photobucket.com/user/Ellis_Simin/library/GT6%20Resto let me know what you guys think!
  7. Hello all my name is Ellis I'm based in cardiff, and saturday i shall be starting a restoration on my friends fathers mk3 gt6. its been stood for a good few years and even gone to china and back! It doesn't run at present and is having a full body off restoration. A bit about me, I'm a qualified mechanic. in fact i have just qualified this year. I'm 20 and i have been restoring cars for about 3 years as a full time job. The day job involves restoration of 50's anfd 60' mercedes, (mainly 190sl's) alfa romeos (giuliettas and some 105 giulias) and early porches (911,356, 912 etc...) so by trade i do everything, welding, fabrication, body prep, painting, mechanical over hauling, even a bit of trimming! (not seats though haha) I've never been a fan of anything british as they all seem to have been left at that'll do and never quite engineered enough. the first car i restored was an type and that was the biggest headache of my life. However I've always had a soft spot for the spitfire and gt6 as they are just heroically pretty. so when asked on one evening after too many wines with my friends family i accepted to start work on his car. I will be doing the car with my best friend who is also an ex colleague and now works for another company doing restoration but a lot of volkswagen buses! (a car is a car though right?) so if your interested on seeing another gt6 being put back onto the road then keep an eye on my thread! Cheers!
