  1. Thanks nick , reassuring to hear that my old girl can be made good again, the more you do and the longer you keep an old classic , the more you want to get it back on the road again.
  2. I had the car running before dismantling , a little smokey but was running nicely with no bangs or rattles. Really would like to keep this engine , but I have little engine knowledge .  I'm going to strip it and let the engine guys have a look , fingers crossed.
  3. See my thread  : spitfire mk3 rebuild. Block picture looks to show a sleeved block.
  4. Worn engine yes. But will it be ok if I change all the lifters , rods , bearings and Pistons , that's my plan. Is it salvageable 🤔
  5. Getting the engine ready for the workshop engineers.
  6. Can't really see it in the photo , but the sludge is a light grey.
  7. I've been splitting down the engine ready for the work to be carried out to the bores to allow the +30 Pistons I have. When removing the sump I noticed grey type paste / sludge in the bottom of the pan , wondering what this could be. Also looking at the cylinder bores they looked to be sleeved is this normal and will it affect the rebore. I have bought the later type 1300 big valve head , which I will have reconditioned at the same time. Are these valves a good size or could you fit larger. I want to retain the 1300 engine (+30). But would like to have a bit more uumph. + 30 , larger valve head , tubular exhaust , 1 1/2  su s of the 1500 and Kn filters . After a bit of forum searching I think that the standard cam is quite good as long as it's in good order. Hoping for around 90-95 bhp. By the way what cc would +30 be on the 1296 engine.
