  1. Stupid comment. Is it possible to install motor & gearbox bolted together. Im changing my motor next month..
  2. And I will install fuel injection to ford motor. Lets see how it works..
  3. From Kent you can have quite a lot of power, quite easily 110-120 hp compare to weight of car it should move the car quite well. I found un used exhaust manifold made of steel pipe..200€..rally quality! Need some fitting, but its same with all.
  4. Yes you will have some pictures...i will go this way. parta for Kent are easily available for reasonable price. In Finland the motor is use for rally so we have lot of information how to get power out of it.
  5. Hi again..I have bought a ford 1600 Kent and type9 gearbox with shorten shaft. I found some pictures of motor support, quite easy. How about the support for the gearbox. There is several types of supports to the gearbox..there is bended and straight alternative? Width?
  6. Yes one option could be to get a Triumph engine. I have try to get it from Finland. Here is one 13oo that needs to be machined. What has been use here is Kent engines it's old technology yes but fits under bonnet and alot of parts with reasonable price & knowhow is available. 1600 Kent with type9 is legal to install with 5 speed gearbox should be quite nice to drive? Megasquirt fuel system to Kent? It is not that simple to get engine from UK..i would like to know what I'm getting. People are not willing to ship engine. It should be packed in wooden box.. As I have understood, 1300 is better for tuning as stroke is shorter?   I will not use the car in winter we have lot of snow and with this car it is not any fun. So I have at least 6 months to change the engine. I'm planing to change the suspension and the bushes. I will also install GT6 discs in front.
  7. We have lot of Toyota here, corolla has been top seller in many years. How T40/50 shifter fits to spitfire..is there enough space for hand brake?
  8. Anyone use Toyota motor with type 9, how to fit those two?
  9. I think I will try to get a 1500 triumph engine & type9 gearbox. In Sweden they have install Volvo B18 motors but I don't know how much work there is to install it. These Volvo motors are easy & cheap to get and those are extremely good.
  10. The Ford 1,6 don't fit in spitfire with out bonnet modification. To get gt6 bonnet is order to UK..transportation cost could be quite high. I think I will get a type9 box and 1500 triumph engine. Even though its wery difficult to find a triumph engine here. Well I learn something new
  11. Hi, do you think that 1,6 zetec will fit with out bulk head modifications, i have found a shop that can handle the fuel injection. Modifying the space for the gearbox should not be a problem. I would like to keep original bulk head unchanged. Sorry for lot of questions.. As far as I have understood the 1,6 zetec is smaller than 1,6 ohc?
  12. Actually we should be able handle this..Finns are quite good in engineering and motor sports. We are less than 6 miljon but there is 2,5 Finns driving in F1 as Nico Rosberg father is Finn Keke Rosberg who won F1 championship some time
  13. Hi, Does 1800 zetec fit to your car without modificationb of engine cover( what is this in English?)? Why standard fuel injection don't fit? Space? What after market injection you are using?
  14. I have found several type9 5 shift gear box for 150€..and an unused propershaft that fits to spitfire and type9. Is it requested to change the location of the shiter ( what you use when you change the shift) meaning is it requested to make the gearbox shorter to fit to spitfire so that there is still room for the hand brake. I think I will go either with triumph 1500 engine or 1,6 ford ohc engine. I'm not interested for fuel injection. Still the ford engine is quite modern and I assume it will move the car much better than this 1,2 what I have. There is lot of information how to improve the motor. I also found Ford M16 calibers second hand free of charge..need some work but for hobby I have time. My question is..is there enough space for this 1,6 ohc ford engine in height &lenght?
  15. I went today to ask from local car inspector what to with the brakes if motor power is more than 20% of original. Yeah..he open his computer check the data base..Triumph Spitfire 1977, maximum motor size in our system is 1300.. I told no the last models where all 1500. No he said this is what I have. Then I ask..what about if motor power is over 20%..he said: You fill in this document with modifications you are going to do, send it to some state company. You pay 385€ then you get answer, the answer can just be no with out any explanations. They either accept or reject my plan. I live in post sovjet union..this is really
  16. To go easiest way? If I change the engine to Ford does it really matter if the brake calibers are from Ford, the official inspection office here is extremely difficult so maybe they request the GT6 parts. I will find out.
  17. Yes I know that it must be Ford M16; like these  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford.....7:g:nOYAAOSwu1VW4AxE As long as UK stays in EU we dont pay any tax..
  18. The car is with 1,2 l motor, there is not much power in it. The motor need rebuilding as well.
  19. I cant find these instructions..
  20. The M16 calipers seems to be easy to get from UK as well as GT6 disc's. So those are as "bolt on" with exeption for disc machine and possible brake pipe? I have lathe so it is not a problem to make the disc smaller. BTW... they ask 137€ for set of M16 disc pads here in Finalnd. This 1,4 motor might have problem as we hade RHD.. and the exhaust in on that side of the motor where we have steeding colum. I will go discuss with the local authories 😀 🙁   what is requested if I install a 1,6 zetec, this motor seems to be better available also.
  21. Martin, what I read from our regulations there is nothing about torque, this is good point and I need to check this. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RL1522SS I have something like this, so the sound is enought.
  22. Yes I think that all european 1500 were with 71 BHP, US models are lower. Mine is originaly from Germany.
  23. The finish regulations are if I have understood correctly. Acceptable without brake or suspension change 1) 25% more engine volume 2) 20% more power 3) torque, no demands 4) turbo yes if it's in power limits 5) fuel injection yes if originaly in the installed motor 6) weight of the motor no limits 7) exhaust limits, no.. MX5 motor is not easy to get and those are expensive. I think Pinto 1,6 motor is same as 2,0 => heavy. 1300 Kent motors has been installed here.. The brake modification can be difficult as there are no real rules, just to be improve?? What ever it means, I'm not interested to start with authorities about this.
  24. Hi John, thank you for the replay. I can have only 20% more power than in 1500 spitfire engine. So 69 hv + 20% = app. 83 hv without brake modifications. It's not so easy here, I think that the 1600 Zetec has 105 hv, there is also 1400 zetec.. I need to look on this with more time. I don't know if it is acceptable to go to injection system..
  25. Hi and good morning from Finland, I have spitfire 1500, 1977. It is with 1200 motor. So I have been thing to update the motor some day, as it is not so easy to get Triumph motor here in Finland I have been looking for other alternatives. I have found out that Ford P9 gearbox has been use and there is propshaft available for reasonable price http://www.canleyclassics.com/gearbox-and-clutch/ford-type-9-5-speed-conversion-parts/ What about 1,6 l  Ford engine from old Sierra, has someone installed one, is there enought room for the engine without big modifications ( what about steering rack), I know that supports must be changed. I would like to keep the outlook of the car as it is. Sierra 1,6 cost here 300-1000€.. Thing is that according to local law, if I install bigger motor than 1,6l, I need to modify the brakes, this is not so simple.
