  1. A few years ago I bought new engine mounts but never fitted them.
    I now can’t find them ….

Mine are decidedly ropey and I wondered what people’s experience was of the latest offerings?

Any suggestions of a decent quality source?

Too cold for much work in the brief gap between finishing work & darkness today:

2000 Mk1 Estate - ceiling light now screwed to roof, it was working fine with a new bulb but for some reason it had just been dangling. Voltage stabiliser was playing up, gauges working intermittently, swapped out with spare and now gauges are working.

Mk2 2.5 PI Saloon - Collected Alfa seats from trimmer today so refitted runners with Shacktune bits, will swap out at weekend.

    Seats look lovely too!

  3. Wow that’s a bit precise!

    Easy bits first…..

car already has a motolita, poly bushed throughout,

    1144 pads, aluminium rack mounts.

Im not entirely sure which springs it has…. Some old guy gave em to me? They’re red………

Like the sound of the 13 row cooler…..will it make it faster?

Adjustable radius arms are they really worthwhile?

ARB links you can knock yourself. I can try to find my parts list ifvyou want. They offer no real benefit to everyday cars though.

No but they look cool with rose jointed ends rather than the rubber 😂

2015 10CR we did without a cooler... brand new oil before the run (Vr1 I think) - ruined by the time we got home.

2017 10CR done with a cooler... oil was still degraded afterwards, but nowhere near as bad.

    My cooler is:
Mocal 13 Row Oil Cooler 1/2BSP OC5133-8 (sourced from Matt Lewis)

    My take off plate is:
Mocal part OTSP1 (came from www.raceparts.co.uk, but I don't think they stock them anymore)

I made up my own hoses with 1/2 BSP push on fittings, but if I did it again I'd get a local hydraulics place to make some up.

Brackets welded between the chassis at the front and bolted up with rubber pads to help isolate vibrations etc.

Take off plate is easy - just bolt it in. At the same time I fitted the thread adapter (wix) so I could fit a filter with the anti-drain valve.

Do you not have a thermostat?

  6. Ok I’m saying upgrades as I’ve not got a clue what else to call it.
Fundamentally there’s nothing wrong with my car… other than things getting tired, like me to be honest this week!

Ive decided I want to use my car for the rbr again, last did it in 2016.

I'm almost sure it could do it tomorrow but almost isn’t enough.
The rear shocks are tired ,the fronts are the same age and make the car sit very low.( Spax all round)
The soft top is a mohair that’s shrunk.

I fancy some trunnion less vertical links.
Id like to fit some decent anti roll bar links.
Also it’s got horrid rattly rear wheel barrow silencers that I fitted almost 20yrs ago. I’m thinking of a single pipe exit…..

I’d appreciate any views on each of these items. Best sources and perhaps reason why and why not?

I'm never going to prevent newbies running with us - we can all learn new stuff from new people but to a certain degree, they need to 'earn' their stripes. For instance, I will help anyone I can, for my mates I will stop and get stuck in as I know their issues will have not been through lack of prep (if they are, I will take the mickey).

Jason they’re my stripes and I’ve had them ages, I didn’t earn them I know coz my mate did them for free. Oh n that Scottish bloke copied 😝

  8. As always a great run helped by the fact the car had been prepared beforehand. I’ll not take the credit for that as James Cooper did the major work. All I did was finish a few bits off that I felt were essential ( brakes ,steering  🤣).

As always the organisation was spot on, the road book had all the information we needed. Funnily enough it’s easier to get lost using a sat nav…. Don’t ask how we know but Glasgow is an interesting place 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t think there was a bad control this time. We were very early for falls of shin and did get a bit bored waiting but was ok.
Seaview was first class as always…. We were in and fed and out in probably 25 mins making way for the next groups. This year it was important to rotate quickly due to reduced seating due to covid.
Sparkford was great, I waist we’d have been there longer and got to have a poke about… I want to go back.

Bad points to the weekend … none really, fuel was overinflated price wise, the weather was a bit rubbish through glencoe.
We predicted lands end to be bad so went for mc Donald’s … service appeared better though when we did arrive however there was a fair amount of food being pushed around plates.
Personally I find it hard to be down on such a great event. Helped by the fact those that run it take part.

Are we doing car of the run?

If so I’d nominate Sean Bradley’s standard 10. What a great little car…made me smile to see it every time! It’s lovely!!

  9. Life has a habit of getting in the way of my plans but ....

I need to get an mot on the spitfire.
I know I need to readjust the handbrake since putting the driveshafts back on.
I also need to give it a once over and get it booked in.... trouble is I also need some decent weather as there’s no room in the garage to do it. This is a constant problem since we moved. It’s also the reason the herald is still in storage awaiting further work.
